As WWE's big debut on Netflix draws near, Undisputed WWE Champion Cody Rhodes has made some enemies. One of them he recently cut off at the knees.
At Crown Jewel on November 2, Cody Rhodes defeated Gunther in the main event, marking The Ring General's second loss since arriving on the main roster in April 2022. The World Heavyweight Champion's confidence has been shaken since then. Analyst Matt Camp speculated on the possibility of the Austrian going after the man who put him in this predicament sooner rather than later, especially if he loses his title to Damian Priest at Survivor Series: WarGames.
Speaking on The Wrestling Matt, former WWE analyst Matt Camp discussed the backstage segment between Gunther, Ludwig Kaiser, and Damian Priest on this past Monday's RAW, which ended with Priest standing tall over The Ring General. Camp noted that the company is certainly high on The Archer of Infamy, so a title switch is not out of the question:
"But I think they are certainly opening the door, and you cannot underrate how highly the company thinks of Damian Priest," Matt Camp stated. "Could they [book Damian Priest to go over Gunther]? Yes, absolutely. It's almost the chance to relaunch Priest." [From 31:54 to 32:32]
With Damian Priest as the new World Heavyweight Champion, Camp feels that it makes sense for The Ring General to go after The American Nightmare after Survivor Series: WarGames:
"This kind of throws a wrench onto things, or maybe it doesn't. Perhaps Gunther takes it out on Cody because he lost to Cody. 'You started this.' Maybe he goes after him. Maybe we get that feud properly done. But I don't think the booking of Gunther has been done properly." [From 34:06 to 34:32]
While Matt Camp feels Gunther might lose the World Heavyweight Championship at Survivor Series: WarGames, Freddie Prinze Jr. believes The Ring General will not lose the belt any time soon. At this point, there are differing opinions, and the possibilities are limitless.
Whether The Ring General remains World Heavyweight Champion or not bears watching, but WWE analyst Sam Roberts hopes he faces John Cena at WrestleMania 41 regardless. On the Notsam Wrestling podcast, Roberts claimed that it is too good a match to pass up:
"I wanna see Gunther vs. Cena. That's the match that I wanna see at 'Mania. I think that's what sold me. I mean, I really wanna see Cena vs. Gunther at WrestleMania. I just think it's too good to pass up," he said.
Needless to say, Gunther vs. Damian Priest II at Survivor Series: WarGames has sparked intrigue on account of how the company views both stars. Therefore, it makes the result anybody's bet.
