Former WWE manager Dutch Mantell recently spoke about Sami Zayn recent appearance on SmackDown this week. He faced Carmelo Hayes in a singles contest on the blue brand.
Zayn showed up to SmackDown to get even with The New Bloodline. He was talking with SmackDown GM Nick Aldis when Carmelo Hayes interrupted him. Hayes and Zayn had an uncomfortable exchange, leading to the latter asking Aldis to book a match between them. However, the encounter ended in no contest after Braun Strowman show up to get his hands on Hayes and The New Bloodline attacked Sami.
This week on Sportskeeda Wrestling's Smack Talk, Dutch Mantell felt the creative team was taking it easy for the holidays. He pointed out that WWE had storylines in place for its major angles, and booking Sami Zayn vs. Carmelo Hayes was just a placeholder on the last show of the year:
"I think it's the holiday season. I don't think they put a lot of thought into this either. They're seeing, 'well these gates will do what they're going to do. Nothing we do here is going to affect them one way or the other.' You got your big shows booked. I think they took the weekend off. I've seen that before." [From 44:20 to 44:43]
