WWE and CM Punk appear to have a better relationship than ever before. While everything seems to be on the up and up, there has been at least some heat surrounding Punk in his second run with the company. Sources are now revealing how officials kept some of these eye-raising instances from the WWE Universe.
The Voice of The Voiceless made one of the biggest WWE returns in history when he came out at the end of the 2023 Survivor Series PLE, just a few months after his controversial AEW departure. After years of rumors and heat between the two sides, suddenly Punk was all smiles with names like Triple H, Shawn Michaels, and Randy Orton. The Chicagoan was back home in World Wrestling Entertainment, and happy to be there.
Officials recently released viral behind-the-scenes footage of Punk's return at Survivor Series, showing how he was welcomed back by familiar faces in the backstage Gorilla Position, and how he interacted with various stars. Word now is that the company left multiple "interesting reactions" out of the project.
Backstage sources report that they heard "a lot" of these reactions to Punk's return that night, according to Fightful Select. It was noted that a lot of people were initially very unhappy that WWE was bringing Punk back, and this goes for talents, backstage personnel, and staff. It wasn't clear exactly what footage was nixed from the final edit, but internal opinions on Punk have seemingly changed for the most part.
Punk has not had any accusations of negativity floating around backstage since his return got going. The former AEW World Champion appears to be doing very well in his current run, and sources say that's because he really is. It was noted that the WWE structure is working well for Punk.
CM Punk's big comeback to the Stamford-based promotion had a rocky start due to an injury, but now he seems to be moving forward with momentum. The Second City Saint began 2025 with a major win.
Monday's RAW Netflix premiere was headlined by CM Punk vs. Seth Rollins. The match ended in 19 minutes after Punk finished Rollins with a GTS. The 46-year-old smiled and taunted as the historic RAW episode went off the air.
World Wrestling Entertainment reportedly planned to do Punk vs. Rollins at WrestleMania 41, but then decided to move the match to the first RAW of 2025. Punk defeated Rollins on RAW in December 2013, and now he's won their second singles bout.
