Roman Reigns is one of the biggest WWE stars of this generation, having a decorated career. However, even the most revered figures in this industry are not immune to experiencing a downfall. 2015 marked a tailspin in Reigns' career when he won the Men's Royal Rumble Match. What should have been a crowning achievement turned out to be one of the worst moments of his career.

Following his victory, the former Shield member was greeted with a chorus of boos by the WWE Universe in Philadelphia. A major reason why it turned out to be a fiasco is that the WWE Universe felt he was being pushed too hard. Despite fans vociferously being against the idea, the company decided to make Reigns the 2015 Royal Rumble winner. This aggravated the already bad situation and rubbed salt in the fans' wounds, which is why the crowd rejected the 39-year-old.

Even The OTC acknowledged in an episode of Biography: WWE Legends that the Men's Royal Rumble victory was one of the worst decisions in his WWE career that continues to haunt him to this day.

"I was booed historically (at WWE Royal Rumble 2015). You think of these moments, you dream about them and the moment that it actually happens, it’s like they’re playing the worst soundtrack of all-time over your moment; ruining your party. I try to forget Philly, I try to forget the Royal Rumble," Roman Reigns said.

For other stars like John Cena, The Rock, and Stone Cold Steve Austin, it took years to build from mid-card to legendary feuds before they got a taste of the main event scene. However, with Roman Reigns, WWE was trying to push him overnight which is why it felt very unnatural.

Why Roman Reigns competing in Royal Rumble 2025 is the best decision?

Roman Reigns is officially set to compete in the traditional Men's Royal Rumble Match this year. Paul Heyman made this huge announcement on SmackDown this week and announced that Reigns had declared himself in the Men's Royal Rumble match.

Unlike in 2015, Reigns is now the biggest star in the company and stands at the pinnacle of this industry. He has finally started to get the much-deserved love and appreciation from the fans. This year's Royal Rumble is set to be the biggest edition of the spectacle as John Cena, CM Punk, and several other top stars are set to compete in the Men's Rumble match

Therefore, fans were clamoring to see Roman Reigns participate in it as well and the voices have been heard. With him potentially wrapping up his feud with Solo Sikoa, The OTC competing in the traditional 30-Man Royal Rumble match seems to be the only viable option that could kick off his Road to WrestleMania 41.

The WWE Universe is rallying behind him to win the contest. Whether it happens or not remains to be seen but Roman Reigns walking into the Royal Rumble match after four years as a much bigger star will truly be a historic moment.
