Pundit Jamie Carragher has given his prediction for the Premier League title this season, backing Liverpool to win the title ahead of Chelsea and Arsenal. It has been an exciting Premier League so far this time out with Carragher's former club Liverpool leading the table by some distance.
Arne Slot has enjoyed a stellar start to his tenure at Anfield following Jurgen Klopp's departure in the summer. His side leads the Premier League table with Arsenal and Chelsea trailing them by six and seven points, respectively, despite playing one game less.
Jamie Carragher has claimed that Liverpool and Arsenal are the two top challengers for the title. He has claimed that while Enzo Maresca has done a fantastic job at Chelsea, his side are not quite there yet.
Carragher wrote in his column for The Telegraph, as quoted by The Daily Mail:
"It is between Liverpool and Arsenal. Enzo Maresca has done an excellent job at Chelsea this season. I was not sure when the club opted not to keep Mauricio Pochettino last summer, but they appointed a coach with a specific profile and Maresca has brought the squad together."
"Having said that, I agree with him that Chelsea are not quite ready to become champions. They will need another goalkeeper and centre-half before they can go the distance," he added.
Carragher has claimed that Arsenal's injury problems this season could see them eventually miss out on the title. He added:
"Arsenal's biggest problem right now is their injuries. They managed to avoid too much disruption in the last two years but their squad has been stretched this time."
Carragher insisted that Liverpool remain the favorites for the title and should be able to go all the way if they can stay injury-free. He also backed Manchester City to recover from their recent poor spell and seal the fourth spot.
The pundit concluded:
"But I am speaking with my head and heart when saying Liverpool will pip them to first place. Arne Slot's attacking options are the strongest in the Premier League. My only worry for Liverpool is if they pick up injuries to their big players."
"If they can avoid them, they will be difficult to catch. Chelsea will finish third and despite their issues I see Man City finishing in the last Champions League spot."
Liverpool will travel to London to face West Ham United on Sunday, December 29 while Chelsea will take on Ipswich Town. Arsenal will next be in action on Wednesday, January 1, against Brentford at the Gtech Community Stadium.
Tim Sherwood has backed Liverpool to win the title this season ahead of Arsenal and Chelsea. The former Tottenham Hotspur manager lauded the Reds after they dismantled Ange Postecoglou's Spurs side 6-3 on December 22.
The pundit said, via TBR Football:
“Everything is looking perfect for Liverpool at the moment. I tipped Arsenal to win the Premier League but I watched them and I have to change my mind. I’m allowed to change my mind aren’t I? Watching them dismantle Tottenham, they look sensational, the width of [Cody] Gakpo and [Mohamed] Salah."
Slot has made a remarkable start to life at Liverpool, winning 22 of his 26 games in charge of the club and racking up 42 points in 17 Premier League games.
