Chelsea star Cole Palmer has made the most key passes in the Premier League this season. Tottenham Hotspur forward Dejan Kulusevski is second behind the England international.
WhoScored has revealed that Palmer tops the leaderboard in a crucial attacking stat, with 57 key passes made in the English top flight (via The Chelsea Chronicle). Tottenham's Kulusevski is second with 47 key passes made.
Palmer made his switch to west London in the summer of 2023 from Manchester City. After struggling for game time under Pep Guardiola at the Etihad, the 22-year-old's meteoric rise began at Stamford Bridge.
The £40 million signing quickly settled into life at Chelsea and eventually established himself as one of the best players in the Premier League. He scored 27 goals and provided 15 assists in 48 appearances across competitions last season.
Palmer played a marquee role in Mauricio Pochettino's side amid their inconsistent form last term, helping them secure a sixth-place finish. He made his England debut on November 17, 2023, coming on as a substitute in their 2-0 win over Malta.
Palmer then earned the call-up for the 2024 European Championships, his first major international tournament. He made five appearances in Germany, providing the match-winning assist in the semi-final win over the Netherlands (2-1) and scoring in the final against Spain, who won 2-1.
This season, the English attacker hasn't slowed down and continues to rack up the numbers for the Blues. He has 19 goal contributions (13 goals and six assists) in 20 Premier League starts this term.
Former Chelsea assistant coach Jody Morris believes Moises Caicedo has had a better season than Cole Palmer so far. Morris insists that the midfielder hasn't had a bad game yet this term.
Although Palmer takes the spotlight with his gleaming quality on the pitch, Caicedo has been a consistent and stalwart midfielder for the west Londoners. He has made 20 league starts so far, scoring a goal and providing three assists.
Morris has hailed Caicedo's performances in the middle of the park for the Blues this season. He said (via Metro):
"If we’re talking team of the season, they’ve (Caicedo and Ryan Gravenberch) played better than anybody. Caicedo has played better than Cole Palmer this year."
Morris added:
"I’m telling you, he’s been better than Cole Palmer at Chelsea. If you’re talking team of the season, who has played better than Caicedo? I’m just looking at pure performance, I’ve not seen Caicedo have a bad game."
The Blues will next face League Two side Morecambe in the third round of the FA Cup on Saturday (January 11).
