Chelsea are considering sanctioning a cut-price exit for captain Reece James amid his struggles with injuries in recent years. The right-back has long been on the radar of Real Madrid, who are in the market for a new right-back following a long-term injury to Dani Carvajal.
James came through the Chelsea academy before going on to be named captain of the club by Mauricio Pochettino at the start of the 2023-24 season. The England international has been plagued by hamstring troubles since then, missing most of the 2023-24 season, as a result. The 24-year-old has made only four appearances this season as a result of further hamstring injuries, leading to concern within the club.
A report from TBR Football has exclusively revealed that Enzo Maresca's side are now prepared to listen to offers for the right-back, who has long been of interest to Real Madrid. The Blues are reportedly prepared to potentially accept a fee of less than £20 million, with bonuses to be received on the basis of the number of games the right-back plays.
Reece James has played just four times this season, appearing for a total of 241 minutes in the Premier League, only. The right-back picked up an injury in pre-season, which left him sidelined for the first two months of the season. He picked up another injury last week, which forced him out of his side's victory against Leicester City over the weekend.
The Blues have seen Malo Gusto shine in the absence of James, with the 21-year-old Frenchman considered by some as one of the best right-backs in the Premier League. With highly rated youngster Josh Acheampong also coming through at the club, the Blues may look to sanction the move for James.
Chelsea are eyeing a move for Crystal Palace defender Marc Guehi as they look to strengthen their backline in 2025, as per reports. The England international has become a wanted man in the Premier League after his displays for club and country in recent months.
Guehi came through the youth ranks at Chelsea, making two senior appearances for the club before moving across London to Crystal Palace. TBR Football reports via Sportskeeda that the Blues are now prepared to sanction a move for the 24-year-old, who is expected to cost around £70 million.
Newcastle United tried on a number of occasions to sign Guehi in the summer but did not manage to reach the asking price quoted by his club. The Magpies remain interested, but his previous elinks to Chelsea may sway him to join them in the summer of 2025.
