BBC Pundit Chris Sutton believes Arsenal are the only team who can stop Liverpool from winning the English Premier League this season. The Reds have enjoyed a brilliant start to the season and have a nine point lead at the top of the league standings.
Arne Slot's side defeated defending champions Manchester City 2-0 over the weekend, further stamping their status as early season title favorites. Arsenal and Chelsea in second and third place, respectively, tied on 25 points.
Speaking recently on the BBC Radio Five Live Football Daily Podcast, Chris Sutton opined that the Gunners are the only side capable of challenging Liverpool for the title. Despite their rejuvenated form this season, Sutton believes Chelsea do not have the required experience to challenge Slot's side in the title race.
"Arsenal, maybe they’re a team that now Odegaard is back are capable of catching them. I think it is only Arsenal, I don’t know if Chelsea have the experience. They have Newcastle away this week, that’s a tricky game because Newcastle beat Arsenal very recently," Sutton said (via TBR Football).
Slot's side have been nearly immaculate in the league and are on a nine game unbeaten run. They have won 11 games and drawn one, with their only defeat being a 1-0 loss to Nottingham Forest in September. They will look to continue their fine form when they take on Newcastle United away on Wednesday, December 4.
Arsenal next face Manchester United in an epic clash at the Emirates Stadium on the same day.
Former Premier League manager Tim Sherwood echoed Chris Suttons' sentiments about Arsenal being the only team capable of challenging Liverpool for the title.
Speaking on Generation xG, Sherwood opined that Manchester City's title defense is over. He added that the Gunners are the only team capable of finishing above the Reds.
"It’s done and dusted in terms of City. It’s difficult to write them off, but you can’t see them going 15 games without losing," Sherwood said (via TBR Football).
"Anyone who finishes above Liverpool will win the Premier League, the only team who can possibly do that for me is Arsenal now Odegaard is back they lookn like they’re on form," he added.
Arsenal finished as runners-up to Manchester City in the past two seasons. It remains to be seen if they give Liverpool a run for their money and up the ante this time around.
