Emile Heskey has named Manchester United captain Bruno Fernandes as the flop of the season. The former player believes the midfielder has not done enough as a captain and has only one good performance this season — in the 2-2 draw against Liverpool in the league on January 5.

Speaking to Instant Casino, Heskey said Fernandes has not been running around enough and is not aggressive on the pitch. The 46-year-old wants to see the Manchester United captain doing more on the pitch. He said:

"Bruno Fernandes. In seasons gone by he’s been scoring goals and really carrying the team. With the captain’s armband as well, you’re expecting a little bit more. He can’t do it on his own, I get that, but as a captain, I want to see a bit more drive. I want to see a bit more leadership. I don’t think he’s given that."
"For a captain, one good performance like he produced against Liverpool in however many is not good enough really. The minimum for any player is to run around, tackle, be aggressive. The captain has to do more, he has to lead from the front and set the standards for others to follow. I don’t think he’s necessarily been that," he added.

Bruno Fernandes has scored four goals and assisted six times in the 19 Premier League games this season. He has another two goals and as many assists in three Carabao Cup matches.

Emile Heskey unsure what has gone wrong at Manchester United

In the same discussion, Emile Heskey said he is not sure what has gone wrong for Manchester United this season. He believes they are not going well in any of the departments.

"It’s been a tough season for them, hasn’t it? I don’t know even where to put my finger on why it’s all gone so badly. It’s not just like one bit, everything’s just capitulated. It’ll be interesting to see what the future looks like under Ruben Amorim. They had a really good result against Liverpool and could have won it at the end. But Liverpool squandered a few chances as well," Heskey said.

Manchester United are 13th on the Premier League table with 23 points from 20 matches this season. They drew 2-2 with Liverpool last weekend and are struggling, with just one win in their last five games.
