Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta has lavished praise on Manchester United head coach Ruben Amorim, wishing the Portuguese tactician well for his future.
Earlier this month, Amorim took over the reins at the Old Trafford outfit after interim manager Ruud van Nistelrooy stepped down. He joined his new team after helping Sporting CP win five trophies, including two Primeira Liga titles.
Ahead of Arsenal's UEFA Champions League match against Sporting on Tuesday, Arteta was asked to opine on the Portuguese club's former manager. The Spaniard replied (h/t GOAL):
"Amorim is an excellent coach, with a special career, who achieved something historic at Sporting, especially in terms of form. He has a very nice challenge ahead of him at one of the most important clubs in the world and I hope it goes well for him."
Amorim, who fielded his side in a 3-4-3 setup in a 1-1 league draw at Ipswich Town, has a big challenge ahead of him. Manchester United are in 12th spot in the Premier League standings with just 16 points from 12 matches this season.
Manchester United will next face Norwegian outfit Bodo/Glimt in a UEFA Europa League game this Thursday (November 28). They will take on Everton, Arsenal, and Nottingham Forest in the Premier League after their continental encounter.
Speaking to betting outlet Instant Casino, former Gunners midfielder Emmanuel Petit shared his honest thoughts on the north London outfit potentially signing ex-Manchester United star Paul Pogba. He said (h/t MSN):
"I did mention that Paul Pogba would be a good option for Arsenal, but it's a gamble. It's a coin toss. The last game he played was last September, 14 months ago. He cannot prepare himself with his teammates because he's not allowed to do so. He has to train by himself every single day with a physio. It's not the same."
Petit, who represented the Gunners between 1997 and 2000, added:
"I'm not sure as well that signing Paul Pogba fits with the philosophy of Arsenal actually, especially after [former sporting director] Edu walked out. It's a gamble, but I'm not sure that they will take it. I'm pretty sure that some French clubs will be very interested in him."
Pogba is expected to return to action next March after his four-year doping ban was recently reduced to 18 months by the Court of Arbitration of Sport.
The former Juventus man plied his trade in the Premier League during his six-year-long spell at Manchester United from 2016 to 2022. The 32-year-old Frenchman recorded 29 goals and 38 assists in 157 league games for the Red Devils.
