Real Madrid superstar Kylian Mbappe insists that his position doesn't matter as long as he is able to help the team. The French icon arrived at the Santiago Bernabeu this summer following an intense pursuit from the reigning LaLiga champions.
Los Blancos had their eyes on Mbappe for ages but struggled to prise him away from Paris Saint-Germain (PSG). The opportunity finally arose this summer, once the player's contract with the Parisians expired.
The 25-year-old joined Real Madrid on a Bosman move but he hasn't been in his scintillating best so far, scoring nine goals in 17 matches. One of the reasons could be that Kylian Mbappe has been operating in a more central role under Carlo Ancelotti.
Speaking recently, as cited by Madrid Xtra, the Frenchman insisted that he is not bothered by his position on the pitch.
“My position? It's the story of my career. I play on the left, right, middle and with two up top. It doesn't matter to me. I want to help the team and score goals,” said Mbappe.
Mbappe prefers to operate in a left-forward role but Vinicius Junior is the established face in the position at Real Madrid. The Brazilian has been outstanding in the role for Los Blancos over the years and powered them to the League and Champions League double last season.
The 24-year-old narrowly missed out on the Ballon d'Or this year and has continued his brilliant form this campaign as well. As such, the Frenchman is unlikely to be afforded that role at the Santiago Bernabeu any time soon.
Kylian Mbappe enjoyed a blistering debut with Real Madrid following his arrival this summer. The Frenchman's first appearance for Los Blancos was the UEFA Super Cup tie against Europa League winners Atalanta in August this year.
The LaLiga giants went ahead in the game through Federico Valverde's 59th-minute strike. Nine minutes later, Mbappe doubled the score for Carlo Ancelotti's team.
The Frenchman subsequently lifted his first trophy with the club this season but will have higher targets in mind. The Champions League has eluded him so far and Kylian Mbappe will be eager to help Madrid defend their title this season.
