Former Liverpool striker Emile Heskey has opened up on Mohamed Salah's contract situation at Anfield. The Egyptian is one of the three superstars whose current deals expire next summer.

Fans have every reason to be worried, with Salah's deal set to expire in about six months along with that of Virgil van Dijk and Trent Alexander-Arnold as well. The 32-year-old has been on fire for Arne Slot's side this campaign, having contributed with 12 goals and 10 assists in 18 appearances across competitions.

Salah scored twice for the Reds to help them secure a comeback 3-2 win against Southampton at the St. Mary's Stadium on Sunday, November 24. Following the game, the Egyptian King insisted that he is yet to receive an offer from the Merseyside giants.

Citing his love for the club, the former Roma and Chelsea winger said, as quoted by The Liverpool Echo:

"We are almost in December and I haven't received any offers yet to stay in the club, [so] I'm probably more out than in. You know I have been in the club for many years. There is no club like this. But in the end, it is not in my hands."
"As I said before, it is December and I haven't received anything yet about my future. I love the fans. The fans love me. In the end, it is not in my hands or the fans' hands. Let's wait and see. Of course [no offer is disappointing], yeah.”

Emile Heskey has insisted that offering Salah an extension is not as straightforward as it seems. He insisted that some players want to be shown love by the club. The former England international, as quoted by The Liverpool Echo:

“He's such a valuable asset for Liverpool - not just on the football pitch but off it as well. [But] it won't be just as straightforward as just offering him a contract, there are so many intricacies that goes into that. There's different procedures and some players want a bit more intimacy. They want to be cuddled, they want patting on the back, their head caressed."

Heskey added:

“It's just understanding what certain players want. And I guess he wants a bit more love from them [Liverpool], which they should be giving at the end of the day - for what he's doing and what he's done. What he continues to do is outstanding.”

Mohamed Salah made his switch to Anfield in the summer of 2017 in a reported £34.3 million deal which now seems a bargain, He has established himself as one of the best players ever to grace the Premier League with 223 goals and 99 assists in 367 appearances for the Reds.
