Real Madrid are reportedly getting closer to signing Liverpool defender Trent Alexander-Arnold in the January transfer window, as per Spanish outlet MARCA. The LaLiga giants will face Arne Slot's Liverpool in the UEFA Champions League at Anfield on Wednesday, November 27.
According to the aforementioned report, Real Madrid President Florentino Perez sees the match as an opportunity to intensify his relations with the Merseyside club. Alexander-Arnold has been linked with Real Madrid for the past few months. As per multiple reports, Los Blancos are looking forward to signing the Englishman as a long-term replacement for injured Dani Carvajal.
Alexander-Arnold's contract at Anfield will expire in the summer of 2025 and he's yet to sign a new deal with the side. The two clubs are expected to hold an important meeting at lunch ahead of the UEFA Champions League clash on Wednesday.
His transfer fee is expected to be around €70 million as Madrid are keen to recruit a new full-back after Carvajal suffered a knee injury earlier this season. The 25-year-old is Liverpool's academy product and he has been a part of the club since 2004.
Trent Alexander-Arnold made his senior team debut in 2016. Since then, he has made 325 appearances for the Reds, bagging 19 goals and 83 assists across all competitions.
Arda Guler set to start for Real Madrid in UCL clash against Liverpool: Reports
Turkish midfielder Arda Guler will reportedly start for Real Madrid against Liverpool in the UEFA Champions League on Wednesday, as per El Chiringuito. Arda Guler would have to fight against teammate Dani Ceballos for the starting position in Carlo Ancelotti's side.
According to the aforementioned report, due to Vinicius Jr's injury, Kylian Mbappe will be joined by Brahim Diaz in the frontline against the Reds. Luka Modric, Jude Bellingham, and Eduardo Camavinga will start in the midfield as Ancelotti is expected to deploy the team in a 4-4-2 formation.
Due to the injuries of Dani Carvajal and Lucas Vazquez, Federico Valverde will start the match as a right-back. As a result, Arda Guler or Dani Ceballos will get an opportunity to start against Arne Slot's side. The Turkish midfielder is the favourite to get the opportunity as he played 75 minutes against Leganes on November 24.
This season, Guler has made 13 appearances across competitions for Los Blancos, bagging one assist.
