Liverpool legend Graeme Souness has hailed Nottingham Forest for the excellent season they are having this time out. The former Scotland international also went on to claim that the Tricky Trees could be the biggest threat to his former club's title chances this season.

Nottingham Forest have seen a remarkable rise this season under Nuno Espirito Santo, emerging as shock title challengers. Following their long-awaited promotion to the Premier League, they just managed to narrowly survive in the top tier of English football in the last two seasons.

The two-time European Cup winners finished 16th and 17th in the last two Premier League seasons, respectively. However, we have witnessed a complete turnaround in their fortunes this season as they sit third in the table after 20 games.

Graeme Souness has admitted that he is enjoying the fallen giants' rise back to the top and how they once were Liverpool's biggest challengers. Highlighting their confidence and defensive solidity, Souness claimed that Nuno Espirito Santo's side could be Arne Slot's side's toughest challengers. The Scotsman said, as quoted by Nottingham Forest News:

“It’s fitting, the synchronicity of 50 years on, we see Forest challenging Liverpool once again. Nuno has them defending well, breaking at pace. They are full of confidence."

The former midfield general added:

"They have beaten Liverpool once this season and Liverpool still have to go to their place. Barring any big injuries, right now, they are Liverpool’s biggest threat to the title."

Nottingham Forest are only team to have beaten Liverpool this season in the Premier League. They defeated the Reds 1-0 at Anfield earlier this season and will take on them at the City Ground on Tuesday, January 14.

Liverpool superstar rejects contract offer amid interest from Spanish giants: Reports

Liverpool winger Luis Diaz has reportedly turned down the club's latest contract offer amid interest from Barcelona. As claimed by Spanish outlet Mundo Deportivo via The Mirror, the 27-year-old is admired by the Spanish giants and is therefore unwilling to commit on a new deal.

The Colombia international's current deal at Anfield expires in 2027 which means he is set to enter the final two years of his deal. The Reds are evidently looking to avoid the situation and are keen on handing the attacker a long-term deal.

Diaz, however, is reportedly not happy with the terms and has snubbed the approach. The winger has so far made 124 appearances for the Reds, scoring 36 times and providing 16 assists following his reported £37.5 million switch from FC Porto in January 2022.
