Mandy Moore is one of several Hollywood celebrities to have lost their homes in the California wildfires that have ravaged Los Angeles since January 7, 2025. The deadly fires have led to the evacuation of nearly 180,000 people from different neighborhoods of Los Angeles and claimed the lives of at least 10 people, as of this writing.
The wildfires have spread rapidly due to high winds and dry conditions, engulfing many areas like the Pacific Palisades and Eaton.
One X user expressed their shock at the devastation and wondered why the fire has not been contained yet with all the latest technology and resources at hand.
"Are the planes not dropping water on these fires?!?! This is blowing my mind, they are literally next to one of the largest bodies of water on the planet. Why have we gotten so terrible at fighting fires with all the advents in technology and humanity?"
Many people replied to the post by stating that high winds have hampered the firefighters' efforts to control the fast-spreading fires.
"80-100 mph winds - even if they could have flown the water would have been blown away instead of falling down. Local meteorologist called them hurricane strength. Winds are down today and the planes are/will be up," explained one X user on Janury 9, 2025.
"The Santa Ana Winds are no joke. It's extremely dangerous and difficult to fly in those winds at the altitude necessary to make an impact. My question is why don't they deploy from SoCal's military bases to assist? Naval Base in SanDiego and the Marines on Camp Pendleton," one user pointed out.
“Wind too wild for planes. Mansions on the mountainside are nearly inaccessible to firemen,” said one X user.
Many others criticized the government's lack of preparation and blamed the local authorities for not having the right measures in place.
"It was a "perfect storm"...carefully crafted. Insurance companies stopped covering fire ~30 days ago. Equipment to fight fires was donated to Ukraine. Firefighters were fired for refusing the cvd sht. Water reserves were dumped into the ocean. 2028 Olympics scheduled there and LA is being prepared to be a 15 minute city," commented one user.
"Biden declared Wednesday a "no-fly" day over the entire center of Cali so he could fly in and out..... that included the fire fighting planes," remarked another.
"Fire hydrants not having water, that's a big issue . They didn't have the common stuff ready to go. So any advanced fire fighting methods I doubt we're ready," replied one X user.
