Culpa Mia (My Fault in English), the Spanish-language romantic drama film, was released on Amazon Prime Video on June 8, 2023. Its sequel, Culpa Tuya (Your Fault), had a limited release on December 18, 2024, before its release on Prime Video on December 27, 2024.
Both films are adaptations of the first two books of the Culpable trilogy penned by the Argentine-born Spanish author Mercedes Ron López. A film adaptation of the third book of the series, Culpa Nuestra, is on the cards.
Ron started writing the story on Wattpad, and it follows the whirlwind romance between Noah and Nick. In the first and second books, the lovers face various trials and tribulations but by the end of the third book, Nick and Noah end up together.
Nick and Noah are step-siblings. Fate brings them together when Nick’s father, William, and Noah’s mother, Rafaella, marry each other. The step-siblings’ relationship starts on an antagonistic note, and they begin hating each other.
Nick and Noah have dissimilar personalities. While the former is a reckless young man who goes after women and dangerous adventures relentlessly, the latter is a taciturn young woman who had a traumatic past.
After several episodes that highlight their mutual resentment, things start to change, and the step-siblings start developing feelings for each other. By the end of Culpa Mia, Nick and Noah are in love. Their parents are upset about it and try to put an end to their romance.
When the second book of the Culpable series begins, the breezy romance of Culpa Mia is retained but only for so long. The young lovers are taken in different directions thanks to their life goals, and several hurdles come their way.
Nick starts interning with his father’s company and comes across an attractive woman called Sofia. Meanwhile, Noah, now trying to study medicine, comes across two women who reveal that Nick’s past has several cruel secrets that he has hidden from her.
As the plot of the book moves forward, Nick and Noah drift farther and farther from each other, and the second book of the series ends with the two lovers breaking up with each other.
Things change for the better in the last book of the series. Culpa Nuestra follows the various curves and contours that Nick and Noah’s relationship takes, only for the young lovers to come back together.
The book ends with Nick’s family celebrating his birthday, and by now, he has reunited with Noah. She surprises him by giving him a Ferrari. The book ends with the following lines, uttered by the characters once the gift has been revealed:
“Tell me you didn’t spend the money I put in your account on a present for me.”
I shrugged. “I told you I didn’t want it.”
“You’re my wife!”
“And you’re my husband!” I said, grinning.
“I don’t know whether to kill you or kiss you all over… Tell me, smarty-pants, what do you think I should do?”
I smiled. “I think we should go racing.”
The mention of racing is significant here, as Nick has always been a racer, and initially Noah was not a fan of either racing or Nick's personality. However, with time, she embraced both. Hence, her proposal that they should go racing provides a neat closure to the story.
Thus, Nick and Noah’s romantic journey undergoes various challenges, right from Culpa Mia to Culpa Tuya. However, at the end of Culpa Nuestra, the lovers are united once again.
The film is available to stream only on Amazon Prime Video. The Prime Video package is included with an Amazon Prime membership, which costs $14.99 per month or $139.00 per year. For those with no access to Prime, Prime Video costs $8.99 per month.
