Carlos Coy, aka South Park Mexican or SPM, had a parole hearing on October 7, 2024. The Houston rapper's hearing came after spending nearly 23 years in prison. He was convicted of aggravated s*xual assault of a nine-year-old girl in 2002 and sentenced to 45 years in prison.

According to AllHipHop, SPM, who is currently incarcerated at The W. F. Ramsey Unit in Texas, is in his "Parole Review Process." The Texas Department of Criminal Justice website explained that this process begins with the offender's files being reviewed and the offender being interviewed. An Institutional Parole Officer will then make a case for the voting panel to decide on the parole. The website said:

“The parole review process begins approximately six months before the parole eligibility date for a first review and four months before the eligibility date in additional reviews. The process begins with the offender’s file being reviewed for all appropriate documents, including letters of support and protest."

It continued:

"An Institutional Parole Officer reviews the file and interviews the offender before preparing a case summary for the Board voting panel. The Board normally will vote on the case just prior to the parole eligibility date."

SPM was arrested in September 2001 for child s*xual assault

Carlos Coy was arrested for child s*xual assault in September 2001. According to The US Sun, the incident reportedly occurred during Labor Day weekend when the alleged nine-year-old victim, a friend of the rapper's daughter, stayed overnight at his house. Following his arrest, the rapper was released on a $30,000 bail bond.

In March 2002, he surrendered after the Harris County District Attorney's office accused him of reportedly assaulting two 14-year-old fans who had been invited to his motel room. One of the teenagers alleged that SPM tried to have s*x with her, but the charges were dismissed.

During his trial for the 2001 child s*xual assault case, SPM was also charged with allegedly impregnating a 13-year-old girl in 1993. The victim sued the rapper in 2000, asking that he pay child support for their son, who was then six years old.

While the rapper denied assaulting the nine-year-old girl in 2001, he acknowledged his relationship with the 13-year-old girl in a 2002 interview with the Houston Chronicle, adding:

"The case with the 9-year-old is something I know I can get past and win. The case of (the) 13-year-old is not winnable because he's definitely my son."

Overall, the 54-year-old rapper faced over a dozen accusations of s*xual assault involving underage girls. SPM was convicted of "aggravated sexual assault of a child" on May 18, 2002, and sentenced to 45 years on May 30, along with a $10,000 fine.

On a musical front, SPM has 10 solo albums to his credit, with the last one, The Son of Norma, released in 2014. He and his brother founded their record label, Dope House Records, in 1995, the same year the rapper released his debut album.

Coy's rapping moniker, South Park Mexican, is reportedly an homage to his Mexican roots and Houston upbringing.
