Drake appeared on a Kick livestream alongside XQC on Sunday, November 24. As Steve Lacy’s music played in the background, the former seemingly dissed him to fans’ surprise, as the duo had not beefed in the past. It appears as if Champagne Papi was referring to Lacy’s association with Kendrick Lamar.
During one segment of the livestream, which garnered thousands of views online, Drake spoke about Steve Lacy and said:
“This guy’s like a fragile opp, but this is a good song though.”
It appears as if Drizzy was dissing Steve Lacy for associating with Kendrick Lamar. Earlier this year, Drake and K. Dot were involved in a months-long rap feud where the duo relentlessly dissed each other in multiple songs, including The Heart Part 6, Family Matters, Euphoria, and Not Like Us, among others.
As several rappers sided between Drake and Kendrick Lamar, it appears as if Steve Lacy made it clear that he was on the latter’s team. In June, Steve Lacy also appeared at K. Dot’s iconic The Pop Out- Ken & Friend’s concert to perform his hit singles Bad Habit and Static. He also took to Instagram to tell fans that he was from Compton, California, similar to K. Dot.
Lacy said:
“Y’all know I’m from compton right?? So proud of us. Thank u kdot.”
Kendrick Lamar released his record-breaking Not Like Us Drake diss track in May, which also included appearances by artists like Roddy Ricch, YG, Thundercat, Mustard, and Tommy the Clown, among others.
Although Steve Lacy did not perform in the song, he was part of the music video that was shot across multiple Compton locations, including Enterprise Park, Nickerson Gardens, and Compton City Hall, among other places.
Steve Lacy has been an ardent supporter of Kendrick for many years. He also produced the latter’s song PRIDE from his fourth studio album, DAMN, which was released in 2017. Speaking about what it was like to collaborate with Kendrick Lamar for the song, he said in an Apple Music interview:
“I went there a couple more times to work on some stuff and this song he [Kendrick Lamar] was just sure about. He loved this one. Then I hit him up again and he said he’s just finishing up the album so I go ‘Tracklist?’ with the eyeball emojis and he said ‘Lol.’ It was called ‘Wasn’t There’ at the time but it’s called ‘PRIDE’ now.”
Drake started the livestream by introducing himself, saying:
“I do music.”
In his next remark, the Hotline Bling crooner seemingly discussed Kendrick Lamar firing shots at him with his diss tracks. Drizzy said:
“I’m here. Fully intact, mind, body and soul, in case you were wondering. You need facts to take me out, fairytales won’t do it.”
The livestream comes just a day after K. Dot dropped his latest album, GNX. Although XQC did not pressure Drizzy to elaborate on his comments, Drizzy continued by saying:
“Nothing makes me uncomfortable. I’ve worked too hard to be uncomfortable. Nothing phases me, like I said, it takes only facts to fold me, fairytales don’t work.”
The rivalry between Drizzy and K. Dot appears to have stopped for the moment, with the former not having commented on the latest album release at the time of writing this article.
