"Good riddance" — Internet reacts to Joy Reid deactivating her X account after citing "abuse" and "negativity" on the platform

American television host Joy Reid deactivated her X (formerly Twitter) account and joined celebrities like Don Lemon and Jamie Lee Curtis in leaving the social media platform X. In an Instagram post on November 14, 2024, Joy shared a video comprising a screenshot of her account deactivation.

In the video, Joy Reid mentioned that she used to go on X to look at the news and see what was trending, stating she used it as "an aggregator". However, she concluded that it wasn't worth it. The TV host explained:

"Because in order to do the news aggregation and just look at all, you have to wade through a lot of dreck and just abuse and a lot of negativity and it’s just not worth it.”

Netizens were quick to react to the news of Joy deactivating her X account and took to the social media platform to express their opinions on the same. An X user reacted to Joy's exit from the platform by tweeting:

"Good riddance. I couldn’t stand looking at her anytime she showed up on my feed."
"She was worried about someone taking it over for nefarious reasons? 🤣🤣🤣Doubtful. If anything, someone may and probably will now make a parody account. Regardless, she like many in that cult are running for the hills," an X user commented.
"They are purposely doing this so they can call X a “right wing echo chamber”, it actually bothers them that we don’t wanna cancel them, we don’t play by their rules of censorship so they do these games lol," another X user stated.
"I love how joyless Reid says she can’t stand the negativity on X. As if you don’t see it on any other social media platform," an X user mentioned.

In the Instagram video announcing her departure from social media platform X, Joy Reid said:

“Today I finally did something I’ve been meaning to do for a while"

She continued:

"The reason for doing it, and kissing goodbye my 1.9 million followers, is because I haven’t been posting for a long time. I just didn’t want to be contributing content once it was purchased by its present owner.”

While Joy didn't mention the same, but it is speculated she left X after Trump announced on November 12, 2024, that Elon Musk would be heading the newly created Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE) alongside Vivek Ramaswamy.

Moreover, Joy Reid also commented on the Black community coming through for Kamala Harris during MSNBC's election night. She said that while Black voters came through for Harris, white women voters didn't. Joy stated that Trump's re-election would be the second opportunity for white women in the country to change the way they interact with the patriarchy.


In other news, Joy Reid posted a TikTok video on November 9, 2024, addressing White female progressives. She asked them to keep Black women out of their invite lists if they were thinking about marching against Trump becoming president. She spoke on behalf of Black women and said that they won't be coming because Black women were now a part of the "prioritize Black communities" agenda instead of the "save the Democratic Party coalition.”
