Wicked: Part 2, the sequel to the November 2024 musical fantasy film Wicked, is set to release on November 21, 2025. Directed by Jon M. Chu with a screenplay by Winnie Holzman and Dana Fox, the two-part film adapts the 2003 stage musical by Stephen Schwartz and Winnie Holzman, itself based on Gregory Maguire's 1995 novel. The films explore the origins of Elphaba and Glinda as the Wicked Witch of the West and Glinda the Good.
The story of Wicked is a faithful interpretation of the Broadway musical's Act One, and Wicked Part 2 is similarly expected to stay true to the story of Act Two.
At the end of Wicked, Elphaba leaves Oz on her magical broomstick after feeling betrayed by Madame Morrible and the Wizard. Wicked Part 2 might see her fight against the Wizard's tyrannical rule unsuccessfully and become a target of their hateful propaganda. Furthermore, her friendship with Glinda will also be tested as the two women will forge different paths for themselves.

Wicked Part 2 will reportedly begin with a time jump, during which, Madame Morrible and the Wizard will ramp up rumors about Elphaba's wickedness, making the citizens of Oz fear the green-skinned witch.
Meanwhile, Elphaba is likely to continue her fight against the Wizard while trying to rescue the animals. She will likely try and fail to enlist her sister's help in her mission. She is also expected to head to the Emerald City alone to confront the Wizard and almost get caught by his guards.
During the course of the story, she is expected to turn Boq into the Tin Man and Fiyero into the scarecrow to save their lives. However, Elphaba will probably lament in the song, No Good Deed, that her attempts to do good are always seen in a negative light and blame herself for unknowingly causing suffering to her loved ones.
It is then that she will decide to embrace her image as the Wicked Witch of the West.
After Nessarose's death, Glinda will probably give away her enchanted silver shoes to Dorothy Gale, upsetting Elphaba no end. She will hold Dorothy hostage in response while Glinda will plead with her friend to release the young girl. Eventually, Elphaba might agree and hand over the Grimmerie to Glinda just as the citizens of Oz, led by Boq and Madame Morrible, will arrive to kill her.
The two friends might part amicably after sharing a tearful goodbye. Elphaba might come to the realization that the citizens need a villain and accept her role as such. She will fake her own death in front of the citizens and let Glinda shine as the good witch looking after the citizens of Oz.
In Wicked Part 2, Elphaba's sister Nessarose is likely to become the new mayor of Munchkinland. Boq, whom she loved since their university days, will live as her servant. Her efforts to make him fall in love with her will fail as Boq will continue to harbor feelings for Glinda. In anger, Nessa will take away the Munchkins' rights so as to stop Boq from leaving her.
Elphaba will likely visit Nessa and enchant her silver shoes to help her walk again. It seems even that will fail to impress Boq, so Nessa will cast a love spell on him, but end up shrinking his heart by reciting the spell incorrectly. To save his life, Elphaba may turn him into the Tin Man. Similarly, Nessa will end up becoming the Wicked Witch of the East. Both are popular characters from the 1939 classic film, The Wizard of Oz.
In a bid to capture Elphaba, Madame Morrible will drop a house on top of Nessa, killing her.

The Wizard's encounter with Elphaba will take place after she will arrive to free the monkey servants from his control. He will almost convince the green witch to join him by promising to free his monkey servants. But, she will change her mind at the last minute after seeing the Wizard hold Dr. Dillamond captive and without the ability to speak.
The Wizard will most likely find out that Elphaba is his biological daughter. In the story's climax, Glinda will banish the Wizard and he will depart from Oz on his hot air balloon.
The love triangle between Glinda, Fiyero, and Elphaba will be one of the subplots of Wicked Part 2. In the sequel, Fiyero will take on the role of the Wizard’s captain of the guard to find the absconding Elphaba.
His engagement to Glinda will be potentially announced against his wishes. After finding Elphaba, the two will profess their love for each other. Fiyero will also help her escape capture from the Wizard's guards, and get tortured in the process. Elphaba will make the tough decision to turn him into a Scarecrow to spare his life.
Moreover, she will reunite with Fiyero in the climax and the two will set off away from Oz to build their life together.

Glinda will probably work in the Wizard’s administration, hoping to change the system from within. The citizens of Oz will come to view her as their protector, Glinda the Good, and the only one who can save them from the Wicked Witch of the West.
After realizing that Fiyero loves Elphaba and not her, Glinda will probably feel heartbroken. She will help Madame Morrible capture her former friend by spreading a rumor about Nessarose’s safety which inadvertently leads to the latter's death. But by the end of the story, Glinda will get Madame Morrible arrested for the murder of Nessarose.
