A.P. Bio is an American sitcom created by Mike O'Brien, who executive produced it along with Seth Meyers, Lorne Michaels, Andrew Singer, and Michael Shoemaker. The series premiered on NBC on February 1, 2018, but was moved to Peacock after the second season. The series ran for four seasons until it was officially canceled in December 2021.
Devin was one of the main characters of the series in its opening season. However, the character did not return for the second season and was never seen in the show again. The exact reason for the character's departure was never revealed.
The series featured an ensemble cast that includes Glenn Howerton, Lyric Lewis, Mary Sohn, Jean Villepique, Patton Oswalt, and Paula Pell. Apart from the main cast, the show also featured many recurring characters and guest stars.
Devin, played by Jacob McCarthy, was one of the main characters of the series in season one. He was a young student at Whitlock High School, who was known for his brooding and quiet personality. In the first episode of the season, it was said that Devin was 'fluid,' implying that he was part of the LGBTQ community.
Over the season the character developed a bond with the series protagonist Dr. Jack Griffin, who used to call Devin 'the Prince of Darkness.' He was part of many of the main storylines, the most notable of which is his storyline with another classmate Dan Decker, who was his bully in the initial episodes.
Griffin brought them together in one class and gave a platform for both the kids to interact. His plan worked, and by the end of the season, Devin and Dan had become friends.
However, after the first season, Devin was no longer a part of the story and was written out of the show. No official reason was given for the character's exit, though there were speculations that the actor was busy with other projects and decided to opt out of the sitcom.
In the finale episode of the series, during a flashback of Jack's arrival at the school, which played out in episode 1, Devin was replaced by another character named Caleb. This essentially erased Devin from the A.P. Bio canon.
Jacob McCarthy went on to become a part of projects such as The Last Summer, Mary & George, and SAS: Rogue Heroes.
