The show NCIS: Origins is a prequel to the original series and is set in 1991. Its storyline mainly focuses on Leroy Jethro Gibbs' early career and depicts all his emotional struggles such as losing his wife and daughter. The prequel started on October 14, 2024.

Reportedly, both shows will take a six-week break from December 16, 2024, to January 26, 2025. They will have the fall finale on December 16. The two series will return with new episodes on January 27, 2025.

Many television programs pause over the holidays. Scheduled pauses are frequently planned by networks such as CBS to allow for holiday programming. Networks may decide to air repeats or special events in lieu of fresh episodes because TV-watching habits are impacted by the holidays. Additionally, the cast and crew can take a break and get ready for the second half of their seasons.
