Bianca Belair and Jade Cargill are the reigning Women's Tag Team Champions, but their title reign could be in jeopardy following a recent attack on WWE SmackDown. A mystery star attacked Cargill in the parking lot during this past Friday's edition of the blue brand and slammed the champion on top of a car.
Cargill was supposed to compete in the Women's WarGames Match this Saturday but has been replaced by Bayley. The former AEW star was also scheduled to participate in the tournament to crown the inaugural Women's United States Champion, but that is no longer the case following the attack on SmackDown.
Listed below are four changes WWE could make to the Women's Tag Team Championship following Jade Cargill's injury.
A recent report has revealed that Jade Cargill could miss several months of action due to an injury. There was a similar situation last year when Sonya Deville and Chelsea Green captured the Women's Tag Team Championship on the July 17, 2023, episode of WWE RAW.
Sonya Deville tore her ACL shortly after the match and Piper Niven was named as her replacement in the tag team. Green and Niven went on to have an impressive reign as champions before losing the titles in December 2023. The promotion could be planning on having Belair search for a new tag team partner to continue defending the Women's Tag Team Championship in the weeks ahead.
Bianca Belair and Jade Cargill are currently in their second reign as Women's Tag Team Champions. The popular duo defeated The Unholy Union at Bash in Berlin in August to capture the titles.
If Cargill is set to miss several months due to her injury, the promotion may have no other choice but to vacate the titles. The company could announce a major tournament for the vacant titles following WWE Survivor Series.
Jade Cargill and Bianca Belair have established themselves as a dominant tag team, and WWE may not want to break up the duo due to injury. The promotion could decide to keep Cargill and Belair as Women's Tag Team Champions throughout the 32-year-old's recovery.
Belair could potentially defend the Women's Tag Team Championship on her own, or the titles simply may not be defended until Cargill is ready to return. There may be enough compelling storylines at the moment for fans to allow the Women's Tag Team Championship not to be defended for several months. Finn Balor and JD McDonagh are completely healthy and have only defended the titles a few times on television since winning the titles in May.
WWE recently introduced the Women's United States Championship on SmackDown, and there is a tournament underway to crown the first champion. The finals of the tournament will take place at Saturday Night's Main Event next month. The promotion also revealed the Women's Intercontinental Championship on WWE RAW, and a tournament to crown the inaugural champion will begin following Survivor Series.
The company could decide to remove the Women's Tag Team Championship from the main roster. WWE may bring them back in the future or potentially merge them with the NXT Women's Tag Team Championship down the line.
