4 things Kevin Owens must do if he re-signs with WWE

Kevin Owens is a tremendously successful and beloved WWE star. He began his wrestling career almost two and a half decades ago, in 2000. Fourteen years later, Owens was hired by World Wrestling Entertainment.

Known as a "Triple H Guy," Owens was hired by The Game and quickly pushed to the NXT Championship. From there, he joined the main roster where Triple H helped The Prizefighter win the Universal Championship.

There has, however, been a lot of speculation regarding Kevin's future in the company. It has been reported that his contract is expiring fairly soon and some expected him to leave. In great news for fans, it looks like Owens will be remaining in the company, as he's close to or may have already agreed to a new deal.

If Owens truly is re-signing with the Sports Entertainment juggernaut, there are still some big things for him to do. This article will take a look at four things he must do if he sticks around, which include a huge WrestleMania match and a bout with a legend.

Below are four things Kevin Owens must do if he re-signs with WWE:

#4. He must win a WWE Championship

As noted, Kevin Owens has had a fair bit of success in WWE. On NXT, he won the top title on the brand in short order. Upon joining the main roster, Owens has held the United States Championship, Intercontinental Championship, and even tag team gold.

On top of those accolades, Owens is a former Universal Champion. He won the belt all the way back in 2016 and ultimately lost it to Goldberg in March of 2017. Unfortunately, that's the last time Kevin has held a world title in WWE.

If he has signed a new deal with World Wrestling Entertainment, winning a world title is a must. Be it on SmackDown or RAW, Kevin needs to finally be a world champion once again after a near-eight-year drought.

#3. Kevin Owens needs to beat Cody Rhodes

Cody Rhodes is arguably the top dog in the company today. He is the Undisputed WWE Champion and has been since winning the title by defeating Roman Reigns at WrestleMania XL Sunday this past April.

The American Nightmare is currently in a feud with Kevin Owens. The Prizefighter turned heel on the Undisputed WWE Champion and attacked him after Bad Blood ended. They nearly got into a brawl on the last episode of SmackDown, too.

Kevin Owens and Cody Rhodes have only had two singles matches together on a broadcasted show. In both of those bouts, Cody stood tall. If Kevin is sticking around, he needs to pick up a win over The American Nightmare.

Even if he doesn't win the world title from Cody, a win would be an indication that Triple H and company officials see Owens as a valuable asset to the promotion. It would also give him more credibility ahead of a potential title match.

#2. He needs to wrestle Sami Zayn at WrestleMania

Sami Zayn and Kevin Owens have a long and storied history together that dates back to before they joined WWE. They came up together on the Canadian indie circuit and later became a tag team that dominated PWG, ROH, and various other promotions.

The two have been so successful as a duo that they even won the Undisputed WWE Tag Team Titles together in the main event of WrestleMania. Despite that, they are perhaps even better rivals than partners. The two have feuded numerous times over the years and they deliver the goods every single time.

Before either man leaves World Wrestling Entertainment or hangs up their boots, they need to have a big singles match at WrestleMania. If Owens truly did re-sign with the promotion, that can soon become a reality.

#1. Owens must feud with CM Punk

CM Punk is one of the most controversial figures in WWE and wrestling as a whole. He had an ugly exit with the promotion a decade ago before returning to the industry a few years ago in All Elite Wrestling.

Controversy continued to circle The Voice of the Voiceless in AEW, as he had very public behind-the-scenes issues with The Elite's Adam Page and The Young Bucks, among others. That eventually led to him leaving the company and returning to WWE.

Notably, Kevin Owens is good friends with Nick Jackson and Matt Jackson. As a result, he likely holds a great deal of disdain for Punk. The two interacted one time awkwardly last year on television, which many hope will lead to a feud. If Owens is sticking around, he and The Straight Edge Superstar can battle over their own issues and Punk's past with Kevin's good friends.
