WWE had a remarkable 2024, and this year is shaping up to be even bigger. RAW will be moving to Netflix next Monday night, and John Cena is scheduled to return this year for his final run in the company.
Despite the promotion's incredible success last year, there were still several stars who were quietly released by the company. Only the top stars in the industry are afforded lengthy careers in WWE.
Listed below are five stars who were quietly released by the promotion last year.
Gable Steveson was once thought to be the next big thing in WWE, but that did not turn out to be the case. The former Olympic gold medalist had a very disappointing run in the company, and only one of his matches aired on television. He battled Baron Corbin to a Double Count Out at NXT Great American Bash 2023.
Steveson was released by the company in May 2024 and had a short stint on the Buffalo Bills NFL team following his departure. The 24-year-old recently stated that the timing during his run in WWE wasn't right and was hopeful that he could return to the company in the future.
Kevin Patrick is a talented broadcaster who was released by WWE in January 2024. Patrick served as the play-by-play commentator on RAW and also spent some time on SmackDown.
Unfortunately, he wasn't a fit for the company but has found success elsewhere since being let go by the promotion. Kevin Patrick is currently the lead host for MLS 360 on Apple TV+.
Jinder Mahal had a remarkable tenure in the company and captured the WWE Championship from Randy Orton at Backlash 2017. However, he was never able to get back to the top of the card following his unlikely title reign and was released by the promotion last April.
Mahal now performs on the independent wrestling scene as Raj Dhesi. His last match in the company was the Andre the Giant Memorial Battle Royal, won by Bronson Reed on the April 5, 2024, edition of SmackDown.
Tegan Nox had a ton of potential but was never able to put it together during her time in the company. Her career has largely been hampered by injuries so far, but the veteran is only 30 years old and has plenty of time left in the ring.
Nox had two stints in the company and was released both times. She was let go by the promotion on November 1, 2024, and was recently scheduled to make an appearance at an independent wrestling event, but it was canceled.
Cameron Grimes was a popular star in NXT, but it did not carry over to the main roster. The veteran is a former North American Champion and also captured the Million Dollar Championship during his time in NXT.
Grimes never won a title during his short stint on the main roster and was not booked as someone the company was trying to make a star. He was demolished by Bron Breakker on the April 12 edition of SmackDown in his final WWE match.
