Former WWE Universal Champion Goldberg made a surprise appearance last year at the Bad Blood PLE. Da Man was a part of the audience, enjoying the premium live event alongside his wife and son. However, his mood soon changed as World Heavyweight Champion Gunther ridiculed the veteran, taking personal shots at him.
Tonight marks a historic moment for the Stamford-based promotion, as its weekly flagship show, Monday Night RAW, is all set to transition to the global streaming giant, Netflix. The show will feature prominent names such as Cody Rhodes and Roman Reigns. In a shocking turn of events, Da Man could make a jaw-dropping return tonight and challenge Gunther to a match at the Royal Rumble PLE, which will take place on February 1.
Last year, while speaking to SECNetwork, Goldberg announced that he would wrestle his retirement match in 2025. The Ring General would be the best option as Da Man’s final opponent, and it seems that the Triple H-led creative team sowed the seeds in Atlanta last year.
Following the insult at Bad Blood 2024, the WCW veteran jumped the barricade in an attempt to confront The Ring General inside the ring. However, the security team stopped the former world champion from entering the ring, while Triple H instructed Gunther to leave. In the closing moment, the 58-year-old star warned the Imperium leader that the latter was on his radar.
That said, the proposed angle is speculative.
In November 2024, reigning World Heavyweight Champion Gunther had an interesting interview with La Previa. During the interaction, the host asked the Austrian about his heated confrontation with Goldberg.
The Ring General revealed that he was invited to the ring at Bad Blood by Triple H to reflect on the brand-new Crown Jewel Championship and was aware that multiple legends were present in the audience. However, he was clueless about the 58-year-old's existence. After seeing the WCW legend in the crowd, Gunther said that he decided to have some fun with the veteran, ultimately triggering the former Universal Champion.
The RAW Superstar also asserted that he would be happy to "teach him (Goldberg) a lesson" if Da Man decided to step inside the squared circle again.
'He [Goldberg] doesn't seem able to take things lightly. I tried to lighten up the mood a little bit. If push comes to shove, and he thinks he wants to get back into the business and wrestle again, then I'm happy to teach him a lesson!'' he said. [H/T: POST Wrestling]
It will be interesting to see if Da Man and Gunther collide inside the ring in the future.
