WWE is planning a massive event for the 10th anniversary of The New Day faction. The iconic group started in 2014, with Kofi Kingston, Big E, and Xavier Woods coming together to create one of the most memorable groups in the promotion's history.
However, things haven't been good between Xavier Woods and Kingston in the past few weeks, with Woods exhibiting heel characteristics for some time now. There have been constant arguments between the two in the last few weeks, and it appears that the New Day might be on the verge of splitting. There is a chance that Woods might turn on Kofi Kingston in next week's RAW episode, and we might see CM Punk returning to save the former WWE Champion from the assault.
Punk's return for Kingston shouldn't surprise the fans, though. Kofi Kingston and CM Punk's alliance goes back a long way, in fact. The duo won the WWE Tag Team Championship in October 2008 against Cody Rhodes and Ted DiBiase. However, they lost it within two months at a live event, and they went their separate ways after that.
However, there was always warmth between them, and Kofi always held Punk in high regard. When The Straight Edge Superstar returned to WWE at Survivor Series: WarGames last year, while some superstars might not have been elated, Kofi wasn't one of them.
They had a brief backstage encounter, where Kofi bumped into Punk and hugged him, saying that he loved that he was back in the promotion. Even in an interview with Chris Van Vliet, Kofi had said that he loved the fact that Punk was finally back. The 43-year-old said that it was good to see someone back in the company whose struggles he has seen over the years.
CM Punk might return and take on Xavier Woods, saving Kingston from his partner's attack. The two might also face each other later in the main event of RAW, with Punk having the last laugh.
The Voice of the Voiceless last competed in a Hell in a Cell match at Bad Blood against Drew McIntyre. It was Punk's third match against The Scottish Warrior since SummerSlam 2024.
Punk finally won the third battle against McIntyre at Bad Blood, and their storyline is seemingly over unless the former Universal Champion wants a fourth match.
Punk appeared on the RAW after Bad Blood, and said that he would be on a temporary hiatus due to the injuries he incurred during the Hell in a Cell match. It remains to be seen whether the two-time WWE Champion will return to the ring in the coming weeks on RAW for Kofi Kingston.
