4-time WWE champion returning after 4 years at Saturday Night's Main Event is possible, says Sam Roberts
A four-time champion was released from his WWE contract in 2020. Analyst Sam Roberts recently suggested the former superstar could return at Saturday Night's Main Event.
For the first time in 16 years, Saturday Night's Main Event will return on December 14 as a TV special. The show will take place at Nassau Veterans Memorial Coliseum on Long Island. As the event would witness the Women's United States Championship Tournament's final, Roberts disclosed on his Notsam Wrestling podcast that he would like to see Chelsea Green capture the title.
The 41-year-old RAW Talk host recalled Green's Long Island-native husband, Matt Cardona, winning the Intercontinental Championship at WrestleMania 32 and his dad celebrating with him in the ring:
"And what's more is that show is on Long Island. What professional wrestler is better known in Long Island than Chelsea Green's husband? All I'm saying is when Zack Ryder won the Intercontinental Championship at WrestleMania 32, his dad leaped over the guard rail, gave him a hug in the middle of the ring, and tried to put a souvenir hat on him," he said.
Roberts suggested Cardona could return after four years to recreate the moment with his wife and celebrate her title win in front of his hometown crowd:
"What if we replayed that moment? Chelsea Green win the [Women's] United States Championship in Long Island at Saturday Night's Main Event and Matt Cardona hops the rail to celebrate with Chelsea Green in the ring and maybe put a souvenir hat on her." [From 57:51 to 58:37]
Chelsea Green qualified for the semi-finals on WWE SmackDown
Last Friday on SmackDown, Chelsea Green squared off against Bianca Belair and Blair Davenport in the first round of the Women's United States Championship tournament. After The EST rushed backstage to her injured tag team partner, Jade Cargill, during the match, Green pinned Davenport to qualify for the semi-finals.
Green's husband, Matt Cardona, recently commented on a post on WWE's Instagram account urging the company to put the Women's United States Title on her:
"Strap her up!" Cardona commented.
Despite being a heel, Green is one of the most popular female superstars. It would be interesting to see if she would become the inaugural WWE Women's United States Champion.
