Undisputed WWE Champion Cody Rhodes has a major title defense one month from now, and it is against his friend-turned-rival, Kevin Owens. The two are booked to square off in a Ladder Match at Royal Rumble at the Lucas Oil Stadium in Indianapolis on February 1, 2025.
Ahead of the annual extravaganza, WWE will shift its flagship shows to the Netflix streaming platform, starting from January 6th onwards. This is a first for any wrestling show. While Cody Rhodes is a member of the SmackDown roster, anything can happen in the coming weeks because of the transfer window situation, meaning WWE Superstars can switch brands under some conditions.
Amid all of these exciting events, The American Nightmare has unveiled on his socials all the dates he will be appearing this month. Turns out, he will be part of the Monday Night RAW broadcast for three episodes. However, it is unclear whether it is for the shows or if he is only working the dark matches:
"January," Cody Rhodes captioned his post on X.
Cody Rhodes and Kevin Owens have been at it for months, so perhaps Royal Rumble is where they put their rivalry to rest. But heading into the event, there is a big question: will The Prizefighter upset The American Nightmare this close to WrestleMania 41?
While Kevin Owens winning the Undisputed WWE Championship heading into WrestleMania season is a far-fetched notion, it is not impossible. There has been talk about The American Nightmare facing John Cena this year on the grand stage. Cena is embarking on a Farewell Tour from January to December.
WWE personality Sam Roberts feels that Kevin Owens needs to face The Cenation Leader as his character has evolved a lot since he debuted in 2015, defeating the 47-year-old right out the gate. Roberts noted that this "heartless, soulless" Owens is the right opponent for the beloved veteran:
"Maybe we haven't seen this since the NXT Kevin Owens came in for the run with John Cena during John Cena's Open Challenge Era, which makes me wonder, if maybe now that we have this version of Kevin Owens back, we need to run that back with John Cena returning, and get a Kevin Owens-John Cena story, in this year we will have John Cena back," Sam Roberts stated.
