An ex-WWE backstage figure believes that a tweet of his may have been responsible for the sudden addition of CM Punk to Survivor Series 2024. He elaborated on why he thinks it was a way for WWE to hit back at him.

On the latest episode of Sportskeeda Wrestling's Writing with Russo, ex-WWE writer and backstage figure Vince Russo was asked about CM Punk being added to Team OG Bloodline at Survivor Series: WarGames. He believed that unless Seth Rollins took Punk out, it made no sense.

Vince Russo said his tweet criticizing Triple H for the end of RAW is what led to the creative team adding Punk instead of Seth Rollins to the WarGames match.

"I put out a tweet after RAW last Monday night. If you remember, [Solo] Sikoa stood on the table and [Seth] Rollins lost the match. I put out a tweet immediately and I asked, 'What does Triple H write this show with, a crayon?'. Now Rollins is going to be the fifth man and you and I laughed at it. Bro, I honestly believe that was the plan and that's what they were going to do and somebody read the tweet and said, 'Let's stick it up Vince's backside' because I'll tell you why. First of all, if you don't do something out of this with Seth Rollins, you bury him. They cost Rollins and he's buried unless he scre*s CM Punk or something like we talked about. This was for the pop." (2:37 - 3:44)

It should be noted that there's nothing substantial to back this claim, and it was said in a lighthearted manner.

Was CM Punk's WarGames booking always the plan?

In reality, all signs indicate that WWE was always planning to have The Second City Saint be a big part of Survivor Series in Vancouver.

Sean Ross Sapp of Fightful said it was always the plan to have CM Punk in the WarGames main event, emphasizing how well he had been received backstage.

"As best I know, it was always the plan. I've not heard a single issue or negative interaction that CM Punk has had since he's been back. He's not just been a model citizen, he's been quite helpful from my understanding."

It seems to corroborate the early report from WrestleVotes Radio on Backstage Pass that revealed Punk was set to appear at Survivor Series: WarGames. It wasn't known in what capacity until his November 22 return.
