Triple H's reaction to fans rejecting The Rock last year revealed

WWE Chief Content Officer Triple H recently revealed his reaction to fans rejecting the idea of The Rock possibly facing Roman Reigns in 2024. The Game also talked about the creative team's plans going into WrestleMania XL.

At the start of last year, The Rock made his electrifying return to World Wrestling Entertainment and seemingly tried to take Cody Rhodes' place against Roman Reigns at WrestleMania XL. However, the audience completely rejected the idea of The Brahma Bull facing The Original Tribal Chief as they wanted The American Nightmare to finish his story.

Ultimately, Rhodes won the Undisputed WWE Championship from Reigns at last year's Show of Shows. Meanwhile, Rocky headlined Night One of 'Mania alongside his cousin.

During an interview with Jimmy Traina of Sports Illustrated, Triple H said he was not surprised by fans' reactions as he believed the audience had always been very protective of the ongoing storylines in the company.

"I was not surprised by it. It was a lot of debate of which way it would go and how it would go. Fans are very protective of this and what it is and how it's handled and if it is seen as self-serving in any way or in the wrong manner. Whether that's accurate or inaccurate. If it's seen that way, they will revolt against it."

The Game also mentioned that Cody Rhodes' story was an integral part of WWE TV during that time, and although they had a lot of plans in place for WrestleMania XL, they went ahead with what fans wanted.

"Cody's story was so ingrained in what we were doing and what we were going to accomplish (...) We had a lot of game plans that were laid out, and sort of I've learned that in this business, if you are not ready [for] a plan B and a plan C, you're making a terrible error. I don't think there was a lot of surprise there. It was just, 'Okay, they reacted that way.' Maybe some of us weren't sure, whatever that is but, 'Now we know, and now here's where we're gonna go.'"
