A major hint regarding which WWE star the company has selected to become the inaugural Women's Intercontinental Champion has been revealed. There is currently a tournament underway on WWE RAW to determine the first Women's Intercontinental Champion.

According to Sportskeeda Wrestling's Dr. Chris Featherstone, a former NXT Women's Champion will be capturing the title. Lyra Valkyria held the title in NXT and defeated Ivy Nile and Zelina Vega on the December 9 edition of the red brand to advance in the tournament. Kairi Sane was supposed to compete in the tournament but was brutally attacked backstage during this past Monday's edition of RAW and was replaced in the tournament by another former NXT Women's Champion.

The promotion also recently introduced the Women's United States Championship on WWE SmackDown. Chelsea Green defeated Mia Yim (Michin) at Saturday Night's Main Event to capture the title.

WWE Hall of Famer shares honest thoughts on the Women's Intercontinental Championship

Wrestling legend JBL discussed the company introducing the Women's Intercontinental Championship and revealed why he thought it was a good thing.

Speaking on a recent edition of Live Q&A available via Backstage Pass, the Hall of Famer commented on the Women's Intercontinental Championship, and agreed with Gerald Bisco that the company might have too many titles now.

However, JBL added that female stars deserve to have the same number of championships to fight for as the men in the company.

"It's a little bit harder (today) cuz the shows are full of your main stars. So it's tough. The only thing I would say is if the men have the Intercontinental Title, the women should too. And if it's too many titles, then neither should have it. I think (women) have proven, over and over again, they're equal. That's why I think what the men have, the women should have - at least the same because they're same drawing power." [43:54 onwards]

Lyra Valkyria made it to the finals of the Queen of the Ring tournament earlier this year but was defeated by Nia Jax. It will be fascinating to see which WWE Superstar is crowned the inaugural Women's Intercontinental Champion in the weeks ahead on RAW.
