Gunther has been an in-demand opponent since making his main roster debut and more so after becoming the World Heavyweight Champion. Recently, a rumor that WWE commentator Wade Barrett was medically cleared made the rounds, and since then, fans have tried to speculate about his first feud for his potential in-ring return.
Some fans have speculated it will be against Drew McIntyre, given their history and recent segments. However, a few also thought he could go after the World Championship. Unfortunately, Barrett has squashed those aspirations.
Last year, the former Intercontinental Champion appeared on the Even Stronger Podcast. During the interview, he claimed he is feeling much better now but won't fight the World Heavyweight Champion under any circumstances.
"No, no surgeries on the horizon. I'm feeling pretty good, Now, of course, this is when people start messaging me, 'Hey when are you getting back in the ring? How about Gunther?' Hell no! I'm not getting in the ring with Gunther I can promise you that."
The Ring General is scheduled to face Damian Priest at Survivor Series as the latter is looking to win back the World Heavyweight Championship after he lost it at SummerSlam thanks to Finn Balor.
Gunther was an unstoppable machine until his clean loss to Cody Rhodes at WWE Crown Jewel. Since then, the ring general hasn't been the same, and his number one contender Damian Priest is taking full advantage of it.
Ever since winning the number one contender's match, Priest has been doing his best to get into the Imperium leader's head. Their past two promo segments have been about Priest reminding the Ring General that he has not been the same man since his loss at Crown Jewel.
The World Heavyweight Champion has never been a superstar who seems to get affected by these things. Unfortunately, what fans have witnessed on RAW over the past couple of weeks makes it appear that it is affecting him. It will be interesting to see if the Ring General can pull off a victory at Survivor Series and how.
