Beerschot and Anderlecht will trade tackles in the quarterfinal of the Belgian Cup on Thursday (January 9th). The game will be played at the Olympisch Stadion.
The home side are coming into the game on the back of a 2-0 defeat away to Leuven in the Jupiler League last month. Nigerian forward Chukwubuikem Ikwuemesi scored a second-half brace to help his side claim maximum points.
Anderlecht, meanwhile, fell to a shock 3-2 defeat at home to Dender in the league. They went behind to Roman Kvet's ninth-minute strike but Yari Verschaeren and Anders Dreyer scored first-half goals to put the hosts 2-1 up at the break. Aurelien Scheidler and Bruny Nsimba scored after the break to complete the turnaround.
The Purple and White will turn their focus to the cup and booked their spot at this stage with a 4-1 home win over Westerlo in the last round. Beerschot needed penalties to eliminate Mechelen following a 2-2 draw.
The winner of this tie will face either Royal Antwerp or Royale Union in the semifinal.
Beerschot are the favorites to be relegated from the Belgian top-flight this season and are winless in their last five competitive games (three draws).
Anderlecht were on an 11-game unbeaten streak across all competitions, winning each of the preceding four before their trip to Genk. David Hubert's side have since lost two games on the spin. The Brussels outfit are on a long drought in the cup, having not won the competition since the 2007-08 season.
We are backing the visitors to advance with a routine victory and clean sheet.
