Celtic and St. Mirren go head-to-head at the Ibrox Stadium in round 22 of the Scottish Premiership on Sunday. Both sides will head into the weekend looking to secure their first win of the new year off the back of disappointing New Year’s Day defeats.
Celtic were condemned to their first league defeat of the campaign on New Year’s Day when they fell to a 3-0 defeat at the hands of rivals Rangers in the Old Firm derby.
Brendan Rodgers’ men had enjoyed an unbeaten first half of the season in the league, picking up 16 wins and two draws from their 18 matches while scoring 52 goals and conceding just four.
Despite their loss against Rangers, Celtic currently lead the way at the top of the league standings with a healthy 11-point lead over second-placed Rangers.
Like the hosts, St. Mirren were denied a dream start to 2025 as they fell to a 2-0 defeat against Kilmarnock on New Year’s Day. This followed a 2-1 defeat against Dundee FC in their final outing of 2024, a result which saw their run of three back-to-back victories come to an end.
With 27 points from 21 matches, St. Mirren are currently fifth in the Premiership standings, level on points with sixth-placed Motherwell.
Celtic have enjoyed an outstanding first half of the season and are running away with it at the top of the table. While we expect St. Mirren to put up a fight, Rodgers’ men boast a superior squad and we are backing them to secure all three points in front of their home supporters.
Prediction: Celtic 3-0 St. Mirren
