It's Ruben Amorim's Old Trafford baptism on Thursday as Norwegian outfit Bodo/Glimt make a trip to England to face Manchester United in a Europa League contest. This will be the first-ever meeting between the two sides.
Amorim's Manchester United reign started on an underwhelming note last weekend as the Red Devils were held to a 1-1 draw by Ipswich Town in the Premier League. The Red Devils came out of the gates swinging and were a goal up after just 82 seconds had passed.
However, they let the Tractor Boys back into the game and eventually settled for a stalemate. United desperately need to improve their Europa League form. It was not until the fourth matchday that the Red Devils tasted their first win in the competition this season.
It came against PAOK under Ruud van Nistelrooy a few weeks ago. United could still cruise to the top eight as their upcoming opponents are relatively weaker sides like Bodo/Glimt, Viktoria Plzen, FCSB and Rangers.
United's Thursday opponents are considerably weaker in terms of finances and stature. However, they are currently 12th in the Europa League standings, three places above the Manchester giants.
This is just their second-ever trip to England, their previous one ended in a 3-0 defeat to Arsenal in 2022-23. Kjetil Knusen's side suffered a 1-2 loss to Qarabag. It was a bit of a shock as it marked just the fifth defeat in their last 32 home European matches.
Manchester United have proved to be an extremely difficult side to defeat at home in the Europa League. They have suffered just one defeat in their last 26 home matches in the competition. The Norwegian side will be buzzed ahead of the contest but they are unlikely to cause an upset here.
