Manchester City legend Sergio Aguero has backed Manchester United's Alejandro Garnacho to have a successful career. The Argentine has defended his fellow compatriot amid criticism over his recent performances.

Garnacho has managed to score seven goals and provide four assists in 19 appearances across all competitions this season. However, the 20-year-old winger's displays haven't sat well with fans who slammed Garnacho after their 1-1 draw against Ipswich Town on Sunday.

Garnacho earned his first-team promotion in 2022 at 18 years old under Erik ten Hag at Old Trafford and impressed in his debut campaign. He scored six goals and provided five assists in 37 appearances.

Aguero recalled the Argentina international's breakthrough and the talent he possesses as he told Stake.com (via Manchester Evening News):

"Sometimes, people forget how young Alejandro is. His raw talent got him to the Premier League at a young age, and he's proven his worth already."

Aguero insists that Garnacho has the potential to establish himself, tipping him to have a great future. The five-time Premier League winner added:

"I've seen many of his teammates leaning in to help him develop as a pro player, and that's massive. If he has that type of mentorship, I'm sure there's a bright future ahead of him."

Garnacho has scored 22 goals and provided 13 assists in 105 appearances for Manchester United. He has also won the Carabao Cup and the FA Cup during his time so far at Old Trafford.

“I don’t think Ruben Amorim’s system suits Alejandro Garnacho" - Robbie Savage on Manchester United star

Manchester United traveled to Portman Road on Sunday (November 24) to face Ipswich Town in Ruben Amorim's first game in charge. The Portuguese boss was appointed as head coach after the club parted ways with Erik ten Hag last month.

Marcus Rashford opened the scoring two minutes after kick-off before Omari Hutchinson equalized for Ipswich later on in the first half. Manchester United failed to find the match-winner and were held to a point last weekend.

Garnacho featured in Amorim's starting XI but the Argentine struggled to make a major impact, failing to create any chances. He was subbed off in the 86th minute for Mason Mount.

Speaking about the 20-year-old after the match, Robbie Savage said via The Mirror:

“I don’t think Ruben Amorim’s system suits Alejandro Garnacho. He was used as one of the number tens. I think he is better as one of the wing-backs. You start discovering things that you didn't know like Garna [Alejandro Garnacho], can hold the ball between lines, you can understand that by seeing the games because he's always open so you try to find these things."
