Arsenal boss Mikel Arteta has seemingly assured fans that his team will only complete a transfer in January if they are sure of the move. The Gunners may be willing to dip into the market, with long-term injuries to key players like Bukayo Saka and Ben White.
A great area of concern might be down that right wing, where the north Londoners do not have another left-footed attacking replacement. Speaking about Arsenal's transfer plans, Arteta said (via Tribal Football):
“If we panic, it means we are not prepared and a big thing is preparation. When you are well prepared, your decision will be better, very well processed."
“Then we will decide if we want to sign a player, is he performing: yes or no? That can be a good decision or a bad decision after that."
He added:
“The preparation is done, for sure. We are ready if we have to do something, but we know as well we have an excellent squad. With players available, we can compete with any team.”
While the Gunners have struggled with injuries this season, academy players have shown that they can fill in for those out of action. Miles Lewis-Skelly has been impressive in Riccardo Calafiori's absence at left-back and is now seemingly a part of the first team.
Meanwhile, Ethan Nwaneri, primarily an attacking midfielder, looked comfortable on the right wing in the 3-1 win against Brentford on January 1. It will be interesting to see how Arsenal set up in their match with Brighton & Hove Albion on Saturday (January 4).
Arsenal are said to be among the clubs interested in a move for Brighton striker Evan Ferguson in January. This is according to a report from talkSPORT, which claims that the Gunners will only complete this deal under the right circumstances.
While the striker's position has been considered a problem at the Emirates, Gabriel Jesus' recent form may have fans rethinking the need for a new number nine. The Brazilian has bagged six goals in his team's four matches across competitions.
Either way, Ferguson hasn't particularly been great this campaign, netting just once in 12 Premier League outings. On top of that, it is believed that West Ham United are also in the hunt for the Ireland international's signature. It is said that the Hammers are enquiring about a potential loan deal for the 20-year-old.
