Real Madrid legend Gareth Bale has backed Kylian Mbappe to "turn things around", following his poor performance against Liverpool. The French World Cup winner flattered to deceive for Los Blancos, who lost 2-0 at Anfield in the Champions League on Thursday, November 27.
Mbappe clearly struggled to affect the proceedings in the 90 minutes he spent on the pitch. He had just two shots on goal, with one coming from the penalty spot. While he won seven duels, he lost eight, and was dispossessed three times.
It was a horror showing that has only added to his poor run of form. Indeed, across the last 10 games in all competitions, he has scored merely three goals. While with Paris Saint-Germain, he scored a total of 256 goals in 308 appearances, but the superstar forward hasn't started shown a similar propensity at Madrid.
However, Gareth Bale belives that his fortunes will turn. The Welshman told TNT Sports (via Metro):
"It does happen, I’ve missed penalties, everyone’s missed penalties. It’s just kind of unfortunate at the moment that it’s not quite going Mbappe’s way."
He added (via Madrid Zone on X):
"On his day, Kylian Mbappe is the best player in the world. It's just a matter of time before he turns it around."
Real Madrid will be hoping that the 25-year-old can turn things around after the setback against Liverpool, with the season now in full swing.
Carlo Ancelotti spoke about Kylian Mbappe's penalty miss for Real Madrid, as Los Blancos failed to score against Liverpool.
He said in his post-match press conference (via ESPN):
"It happens a lot with forwards, there are times when it's hard for them to score. There's a cure, and it's patience. It's a difficult moment for him, above all today, with the missed penalty. Everyone has to support him."
"It could be a lack of confidence. Sometimes, when you have a moment when things aren't going well, the idea is to play simply, and you can complicate things a bit. He's scored a lot of penalties. Sometimes you can miss one. He has to work, keep fighting, and the moment will pass," Ancelotti added.
The Italian manager will hope that Kylian Mbappe can return to goalscoring form, with Real Madrid teetering on the edge of the Champions League playoffs.
While the defeat against Liverpool will sting, Ancelotti will hope to rally the players as they return to the Bernabeu, where they face Getafe in La Liga on Sunday, December 1.
