According to a report from The Sun, Manchester United head coach Ruben Amorim gave his team match ratings after their 1-1 draw away to Ipswich in the Premier League. The game was the Portuguese tactician's first game as head coach of the English outfit and showed how much work he has to do in the future.
The Red Devils were not impressive in their away fixture and were outplayed by their hosts, with the Xg reading 1.59-0.8 in the host's favor.
The unnamed source told The Sun via sportBIBLE:
"Amorim said their performance was a five out of ten. He was impressed with Ipswich and thought the game was played at an incredible intensity. But he added that it showed just how much United need to improve. He was critical of one or two players for losing the ball and not being in the right positions. But he also said, ‘Some of you I’ve had for two days, some two weeks’, so he was realistic. He did say they were going to have to learn quickly."
Ruben Amorim will hope he can lead his side to their first win under his tutelage on Thursday when they face Bodo/Glimt in the Europa League. Manchester United currently sit in 12th place in the Premier League.
Manchester United head coach Ruben Amorim lamented his side's decision-making in their 1-1 draw with Ipswich. The game was the former Sporting boss' first game in charge of the team, and he made a few observations from the experience.
The English giants have been particularly poor this season. After 12 games, they sit in 12th place on the Premier League table. Their poor performances led to the dismissal of former manager Erik ten Hag.
Speaking after his debut in the Red Devil dugout, Amorim said via FotMob:
"I think that is a concern because you can understand you don't need to coach them at this level (how) you have to keep the ball, put the momentum in to put the ball up front."
The Manchester United manager concluded, saying:
"At the end of the game, we are around the box with two strikers, Josh (Zirkzee) has to understand he has to go to the box to have the crosses, so we are doing things not in the right moment. That is something we have to address. Everyone talks about the 3-4-3 – that is not the problem, but the understanding of the game... we have to improve in this area."
Manchester United have bagged four wins and defeats each and as many draws, while scoring 13 and conceding 13 in those games. Ruben Amorim will be keen to help the team back to their place at the top half of the table and will have a chance to do so when his side hosts Everton next weekend.
