Former Real Madrid striker Predrag Mijatovic has slammed Carlo Ancelotti following the 2-0 defeat at the hands of Liverpool in the Champions League on Wednesday, November 27. Los Blancos have lost three of their last five games in all competitions.
The LaLiga giants arrived at the game on the back of a 3-0 win against Leganes over the weekend. However, Liverpool started the game on the front foot and soon took charge of proceedings.
After a goalless first half at Anfield, the hosts took the lead through Alexis Mac Allister in the 52nd minute. One of the issues that has bugged Real Madrid fans has been Ancelotti's inability to get the most out of summer signing Kylian Mbappe.
The Frenchman failed to impress against Liverpool and missed a penalty in the second half. The Reds went on to double their score through Cody Gakpo (76') after Mohamed Salah missed a penalty in the 70th minute.
Speaking after the game, as cited by Madrid Universal, Mijatovic insisted that Carlo Ancelotti has lost control of his team.
"The team has fallen out of Ancelotti's hands. He has listened to so many opinions," said Mijatovic.
Real Madrid registered eight shots in the game, three of which were on target. They had 37 percent possession and attempted 365 passes with an 87 percent completion rate.
Following the defeat, Los Blancos are 24th in the Champions League table and their chances of making it to the knockouts hangs by a thread.
Carlo Ancelotti's contract with Real Madrid runs until 2026, but it was previously believed that he may have to vacate his position at the end of this season. It has been suggested that Los Blancos have already identified Bayer Leverkusen manager Xabi Alonso as the ideal man to take them forward.
The Spanish manager has been outstanding for Bayer Leverkusen of late and guided them to a league and cup double last season. While Leverkusen have endured a dip in form this campaign, Alonso's image remains untarnished.
The Spaniard has registered a 65.14 percent win ratio with the German champions. He spent five seasons at the Santiago Bernabeu as a player and is aware of the rigors of representing the LaLiga champions.
However, Real Madrid may be forced to consider Carlo Ancelotti's future in mid-season if the poor form continues. Recent reports have suggested that they have already identified current director Santiago Solari as a candidate to take charge on an interim basis.
