Manchester United have entered the race to sign Barcelona target Jonathan David, according to Fichajes.net. The Canadian striker has been in inspired form of late for Lille.
This season, David has registered 17 goals and five assists from 28 games across competitions for the Ligue 1 side. However, his contract expires in under six months and he hasn't signed a new deal yet.
The situation has prompted interest from multiple clubs across the continent, including the Red Devils. Manchester United head coach Ruben Amorim wants to sign a new No. 9 to lead the line and has apparently requested the club to rope in David.
The Premier League giants already have Rasmus Hojlund and Joshua Zirkzee for the role, but neither has impressed this season. The Dane has managed seven goals from 23 games, while Zirkzee has found the net just four times in 28 games.
Amorim desires a dynamic frontman who can contribute in attack as well as get involved in buildup play. David fits the bill and his availability as a free agent makes him a lucrative option for Manchester United.
However, Barcelona are also eyeing the 24-year-old with interest. The Catalans are laying down succession plans for Robert Lewandowski, who will turn 37 in August.
The LaLiga giants are in financial distress, which puts them at a disadvantage in the market. As such, David's contract situation makes him the ideal target for Barcelona. The Canadian is free to agree to a pre-contract with his suitors this month.
Napoli are reportedly planning to hijack Barcelona's move for Manchester United forward Marcus Rashford. The Englishman has dropped out of favor under Ruben Amorim and hasn't featured in the last six games under the Portuguese head coach.
The Red Devils are apparently ready to let Rashford leave this summer and the Catalans are interested. The LaLiga giants want to add more firepower to their attack, after falling behind in the pecking order.
Recent reports (via Team Talk) have suggested that Barcelona have already held talks with the player's camp regarding a move. However, it now appears that Napoli are ready to ruin their plans.
The Serie A side are all set to lose Khvicha Kvaratskhelia this year, and want Rashford to maintain the quality in attack. Manchester United will welcome the developments, as it could help them extract a premium fee for the 27-year-old.
