Flow is an animated feature film directed by Gints Zilbalodis, who co-wrote the screenplay with Matīss Kaža. The film premiered at the Cannes Film Festival and won universal praise for its breathtaking visuals and unique storytelling.

One groundbreaking aspect of its storytelling is the absence of dialogues. The film tells the story of a cat who survives a tsunami by climbing on a boat, only to discover that the boat is already filled with other animals. Despite its solitary nature, the cat would now have to team up with other animals to survive.

The film was released in theatres in the United States on November 22, 2024, with a limited run in Los Angeles and New York, before releasing widely on December 6, 2024. The visionary filmmaker Gints Zilbalodis has also composed the music for the film with Rihards Zaļupe.

Flow has no dialogue

Flow has been earning praise from critics and audiences for its visuals, direction, music, and most prominently its unique narrative style that tells a story of survival without words. The film has no dialogue and relies upon music and visuals for storytelling.

The film is a result of collaboration among many European Institutions including the National Film Centre of Latvia, ARTE France, and Eurimages. The animation work was done in France and Belgium. The film took home the prize of Best Animated Feature at the 2025 Golden Globes. Flow has also been selected as the Latvian entry for Best International Feature Film at the 97th Academy Awards.
