Jojo Siwa has caught the attention of netizens on X, formerly known as Twitter, for comparing her controversial LadyGunn cover photo to Harry Styles’ 2020 Vogue cover.

The former Nickelodeon star appeared on an episode of the Talk Tuah podcast hosted by Hailey Welch on October 11, 2024, and discussed the racy photoshoot.

For context, the 21-year-old star singer graced the covers of the independent publication, LadyGunn, in September 2024 wearing a rhinestone-studded chest piece and jock strap reminiscent of a bulge.

In a report by Daily Mail on October 14, 2024, Jojo revealed during the podcast that the inspiration for the costume was defying gender norms and spicing things up:

“The stone bulge is - we were just giving a little spice, a little gender-bend, a little you can be anything you want to be. It just was spicing myself up a little."

The singer likened her magazine visuals to Harry Styles’ Vogue photoshoot where he wore a Gucci dress and stated:

“It’s like back in the day when Harry Styles wore a dress. Obviously, wearing a bulge is a little different than wearing a dress."

Pop Crave tweeted Jojo Siwa’s comparison on X on October 12, 2024, which elicited varying reactions from netizens. A user commented:

“Let me hold your hand when I tell you this JoJo…it’s not the same thing. Not at all.”

Other netizens didn’t appreciate the comparison and expressed such:

“Do not ever compare yourself to a legendary man such as @Harry_Styles,” a user stated.
“Isn’t there a difference between wearing a dress and wearing a stone bulge?" Another user asked.
“She tries so hard to make a statement and it's actually funny,” a netizen commented.
“She thinks she’s being edgy and it’s literally not. This is the girl who said she invented gay pop,” a user said.

Others reacted positively to Jojo Siwa’s style and found similarities between her magazine visuals and Harry Styles' 2020 Vogue cover.

“Jojo Siwa’s perspective on her recent photoshoot is refreshing! Celebrating self-expression and gender-bending, much like Harry Styles did, encourages individuality and creativity. It’s great to see her embracing such bold artistry,” an X user replied.
“Love the boldness! keep shining!” Another user commented.
“Just like Harry Styles did, proving fashion is a playground for identity,” a netizen stated.
“Oh girl, I totally get it, Jojo’s trying to break free from norms!” a user commented.

Jojo Siwa revealed that photoshoots are a “big big struggle” for her

In the Talk Tuah podcast, Jojo Siwa also revealed that photoshoots were mentally tasking for her, per Daily Mail’s report, before adding that she managed to get through them nonetheless:

'I ended up being fine, I got through the day - and it was so worth it because the pictures turned up so sick.”

The Dance Moms alum also spoke on the reason for her bold fashion choices and unique style and described her choices as a form of representation for people who are different. She stated:

'I like to be for the people that are different - for the people that don't fit in and for the people that are just unafraid to take risks...I have to go as far as I possibly can into the risk zone."

Jojo Siwa recently faced backlash over her controversial statements about Beyonce at the Industry Dance Awards on October 8, 2024. Per Billboard reports on October 10, 2024, as the artist accepted an award, she jokingly quipped:

“I also have to say thank you to Beyoncé, just so that we can keep the dancing community safe.”

Jojo's statements alluded to the conspiracy about multiple celebrities thanking Beyonce after receiving their awards to keep their place in the industry.
