Former One Direction singer Liam Payne passed away on October 16 at CasaSur Palermo Hotel in Buenos Aires, Argentina. He succumbed to injuries after falling from the third-floor balcony of his hotel room.

In the wake of his tragic demise, fans have pointed out that the famous 1D track Perfect had the lyrics:

“But if you like causing trouble up in hotel rooms/ And if you like having secret little rendezvous…”

While it was a verse written and recorded by another 1D member Harry Styles, fans of the band are now linking it to Liam Payne’s death and how he died from a hotel balcony fall. Some fans have also pointed out how, coincidentally, Liam Payne passed away exactly 9 years after the day of the song’s release on October 16, 2015.

For instance, X user @brinagrandes posted her status on the social media platform X. It read:

“Listening to ‘Perfect’ and realized that the line that goes ‘if you like causing trouble up in hotel rooms’ and the song being released on October 16 the same day he passed away is really eerie.”

Many others joined the conversation and shared similar reactions on the platform.

“Wdym ‘Perfect’ came out 9 years ago yesterday with the lyrics ‘but if you like causing trouble up in hotel rooms….’” a fan wrote.

“Was listening to ‘Perfect’ and ‘but if you like causing trouble up in hotel rooms’ have a different meaning now,” another fan wrote.

“Just listened to Harry sing ‘but if you like causing trouble up in hotel rooms…’ in ‘Perfect’ and I will literally NEVER be able to listen to this song the same again,” a person wrote.

Perfect was penned and recorded in July 2015 and later released on October 16 that year on the BBC Radio1 Breakfast show. It was part of the second single of their studio album Made in the A.M. as well as the EP, Perfect. The song was co-written by Harry Styles, Louis Tomlinson, Julian Bunetta, Jesse Shatkin, Jacob Kasher, John Ryan, and Maureen Anne McDonald.

The 3-minute and 50-second-long track was produced by Shatkin, Bunetta, and AFTERHRS. The original description of Perfect, read,

“emotionally charged ironic love song featuring passionate drumming, rousing guitars, shimmering synths, and an immense chorus.”

After the song’s release, Louis Tomlinson told Good Morning Britain that it was a message to all young men that,

“you’re not the typical knight in shining armor, Romeo kinda guy… you’re not taking it so seriously. It’s more about the moment.”

Meanwhile, the band’s longtime writer and producer Julian Bunetta told a fan on X that Perfect was a “jam” that he played in his car as it was a “good driving song.” He also shared how it took a lot of time to write the lyrics “because it was written over a couple different continents.” Bunetta added how 1D was on the On The Road Again Tour when the song was being written.

At the time of the track’s release, there was speculation among fans and the media that the song was Harry Styles’ response to former girlfriend and popstar Taylor Swift’s song Style and was aimed at their breakup. However, Harry refuted the claims. The couple briefly dated in 2012.
