Actor Timothy West, 90, has unexpectedly passed away on November 12, 2024. He gained recognition for being featured on stage in projects such as King Lear, Uncle Vanya, and more. West was married to retired actress Prunella Scales and was a father of three children, Samuel, Joseph, and Juliet.
Timothy's children confirmed the news of his demise in a statement shared through Samuel's official page on X (formerly Twitter) a day later. The post included a black-and-white photo of Timothy and started by saying:
"After a long and extraordinary life on and off the stage, our darling father Timothy West died peacefully in his sleep yesterday evening. He was 90 years old."
The children did not disclose Timothy's cause of death, adding that he was close to his family members and friends, and all of them would miss him forever. The statement mentioned towards the end:
"We would like to thank the incredible NHS staff at St George's Hospital, Tooting and at Avery Wandsworth for their loving care during his last days."
Timothy West's survivors also include a sister, seven grandchildren, and four great-grandchildren. While Samuel and Joseph were born after Timothy tied the knot with Prunella, West shared Juliet with his first wife Jacqueline Boyer.
Also known as Timothy Lancaster West, he gained recognition over the years for his flawless presence on screen. Although he had multiple films and TV shows in his credits, Timothy was known as the presenter of the Channel 4 series, Great Canal Journeys.
West even became famous for portraying Cauchon in the historical drama film, The Messenger: The Story of Joan of Arc. He appeared in many other projects, including Nicholas and Alexandra, Sindbad: Legend of the Seven Seas, and The Devil's Advocate.
The Bradford, West Yorkshire native accumulated a huge fanbase for being associated with various successful projects. In between all these, he even raised three kids who were born from his marriages to Prunella Scales and Jacqueline Boyer.
The Sun states that Timothy West and Prunella Scales first met in 1961 when they worked on a play, She Died Young. The duo began spending time with each other during breaks and even wrote letters. The pair exchanged vows around two years later.
Timothy West and Prunella Scales' son Samuel is also pursuing a successful career in the entertainment industry. He has also been a part of the theatre like his father and appeared in various TV films such as The Ripper, Van Helsing, and The Long Walk to Finchley.
The 58-year-old even played Gerald Brenan in Carrington and was cast for important roles in shows like Doctor Who: Dimensions in Time, Cambridge Spies, and The Hollow Crown: The Wars of the Roses.
According to The Sun, West's second child Joe is currently employed as a teacher and has been residing in France for a long time. However, there are no details available on Timothy's daughter Juliet's profession, early life, and educational background.
Prunella Scales was active in films and television for around 67 years and received a D.Litt honorary degree from the University of Bradford. She became a popular face for her appearance in the BBC 1 show, Marriage Lines. She was also known for her performances in films like The Wicked Lady, Howards End, and Escape from the Dark.
