The sixth episode of Dexter: Original Sin season 1, titled The Joy of Killing, premiered on Paramount+ with Showtime on Friday, January 10, 2025. This intense crime drama followed Dexter Morgan as he tried to manage his personal life, a new relationship, and his dangerous urges.

As the story got more complicated, Dexter started chasing Levi Reed, a child killer who was freed by the judiciary due to a lack of evidence. At the same time, the Miami Police Department was looking into two big cases, the kidnapping of Captain Aaron Spencer’s son and a string of violent murders that might be connected to a serial killer.

Each part of the story added more tension and kept the viewers hooked. Dexter’s third victim was none other than Levi Reed. After carefully tracking him, Dexter caught Reed and made him confess to his crimes.

Once Reed admitted what he had done, he became another name on Dexter’s list of people he punished. The episode left a lingering question about Dexter’s morality, especially as the police got closer to uncovering his dark deeds.

Dexter: Original Sin season 1 episode 6: Time to peekaboo

The tension in Dexter: Original Sin season 1 episode 6 peaked when Dexter went to Alligator Alley to get rid of Levi Reed’s cut-up body. But things went wrong when the police found the chopped-off hand of Tony Ferrer, one of Dexter’s previous victims. This discovery connected Tony’s murder to the bigger case the Miami police are working on, putting Dexter in danger.

As Dexter got close to the secluded spot to get rid of Reed’s body, the police stopped him. He tried to stay calm, but when they found Tony’s hand, it started to look like Dexter’s secret life might be exposed. This scene marked a significant shift in the series as Dexter’s careful planning began to unravel, heightening the suspense of whether he could stay ahead of the law.

Levi Reed’s death was a chilling sequence. After Dexter knocked Reed out with a drug, he talked to him about the terrible things Reed had done. Reed admitted he enjoyed seeing the fear in his young victims’ eyes and bragged about the control he had over them.

Even though Reed tried to say he was like Dexter, Dexter argued that the rules Harry taught him made him different from people like Reed. Dexter killed Reed in the end, but Reed’s words stuck with him, making Dexter wonder if he would have been still doing the right thing without Harry’s guidance.

Dexter: Original Sin season 1 episode 6: Aaron’s son kidnapped

Dexter: Original Sin season 1 episode 6 also explored the terrifying kidnapping of Nicky, the son of Captain Aaron Spencer. The crime happened when a masked man took Nicky after tying up his mother, Becca. This shocking event deeply affected the Miami PD, and Aaron took charge of a critical investigation to find his son.

Assistant Chief Carl Borlee came to help Aaron, though doubts arose about the case’s connection to Jimmy Powell’s murder. Aaron, however, believed that the two crimes were connected because both he and Jimmy’s fathers were involved in prosecuting leaders of major drug cartels. This led them to suspect Rafael Campos, a top member of the Los Tigres cartel, as the prime suspect.

More evidence confirmed the link for the viewers when the kidnapper gave Nicky the same lunch that was given to Jimmy before. This creepy similarity made it even more important to find the boy, as the Miami police realized they might be dealing with a calculated criminal who was targeting specific families.

This part of the story highlighted the show’s intricate storytelling, weaving personal stakes with broader criminal investigations.
