The seventh episode of The Legend of Vox Machina season 3 has finally premiered on Amazon Prime Video and has already delivered one of the most shocking episode endings we have ever seen on the show. The episode, which premiered on October 17, 2024, depicted the brutal battle between Percy (Taliesin Jaffe) and Ripley, which ended with Percy's arc coming to a complete end.

Yes, Percy dies in the aftermath of the battle with Ripley, who gives herself up to Othrax. This happens when Percy tries to show undeserved sympathy to Ripley after he defeats her in the battle. However, Ripley takes this moment of weakness to fire a shot at him, which ultimately kills him.

The rest of the group finds Percy's body at the end of the episode after getting separated from him initially. This leads to one of the most shocking final moments in any episode of The Legend of Vox Machina so far.

How did Percy die in The Legend of Vox Machina season 3 episode 7?

In the seventh episode of The Legend of Vox Machina season 3, the team flies to the Isle of Glintshore, where Percy suspects Ripley is. As they reach there, they face a path full of traps. As the gang moves forward with the intent to fight Ripley, a trap releases a delirium gas, which results in Percy being taken away and others falling into a trap where they have to face their deepest fears.

Ripley meanwhile faces Percy and shows him her creations that will give Orthax power from all the souls she kills. Giving herself to Othrax, Ripley begins a fight with Percy, which also leads to some of the most exciting sequences of the episode.

However, with a clever sleight of hand, Percy comes out on top after using a black powder explosion to beat Ripley and Othrax. Here, Percy arrives at the moment he has waited for since season 1, but in this crucial moment, he shows a moment of mercy to Ripley. In this moment of hesitance, Ripley shoots Percy and kills him.

The end of the episode reveals that the group stumbles upon Percy's dead body, leading to perhaps the saddest episode we have seen in The Legend of Vox Machina and definitely the defining episode of The Legend of Vox Machina season 3.

Why Percy's death was crucial in The Legend of Vox Machina season 3 episode 7?

More than Percy's death, the real important reason for this moment lies in Percy's character development. However, this brief moment of hesitation was perhaps the most defining factor in Percy's character development since the first season. This moment proved that Percy had changed and evolved, even though it led to his demise.

Percy's voice actor, Taliesin Jaffe, also pointed out in an earlier interview with Radio Times how character development was the primary focus over every other element. He had said:

"The opening title shot of Percy is an awful lot about moving forward. It's what his mission is at this point, to start healing, and to start becoming the person he was supposed to be if all of these terrible things had never happened,"

Despite what happened in this episode, it immortalized Percy's character and things will only be getting more intense from now on.

The first nine episodes of The Legend of Vox Machina season 3 are now streaming on Prime Video.
