WWE creatives shocked the fans on last week's Friday Night SmackDown when Paul Heyman returned and introduced CM Punk as the fifth member of the OG Bloodline team. Punk will now team up with Roman Reigns, The Usos, and Sami Zayn to take on The Bloodline and Bronson Reed in a WarGames match at Survivor Series on November 30.
After Bronson Reed joined forces with Solo Sikoa's Bloodline, Seth Rollins was rumored to be the final member of Reigns' team. However, Punk entering as the fifth member was out of the box and surprised many.
During the recent episode of BroDown exclusively on Backstage Pass, former WWE head writer Vince Russo reacted to the company's recent decision to add CM Punk to WarGames after teasing Rollins to be part of the match. Russo claimed that Triple H made the last-minute creative change after watching one of his tweets in which he criticized The Visionary's recruitment into the team.
"I guarantee you that Triple H read my tweet. So, what do they do? At the last minute, oh it's CM Punk, which makes absolutely no sense. There's no story. But not only that, here's why I know they were going with Seth Rollins. This was done just for a pop. It makes no sense in the storyline, whatsoever. This company works on pops." [From 3:00 onwards]
While it is unknown why Triple H decided to add the former AEW star to the bout, the decision to bring CM Punk as a fifth member was indeed surprising. Recent reports suggest that this addition will kickstart the rivalry between Punk and Rollins. The Visionary had previously denied multiple offers to be part of the OG Bloodline due to his bad blood with Roman Reigns.
The Straight Edge Superstar hasn't featured in any WWE storyline since Bad Blood Premium Live Event. Many wondered if Punk would be part of the 2024 Survivor Series: WarGames after he made his return to the company at last year's event.
As Punk has joined Roman Reigns, Seth Rollins will not be happy about it, and he might take swipes at The Best in the World. This might also invoke a reaction from The Straight Edge Superstar before Survivor Series: WarGames, and things might get heated between them before the mega event.
With reports suggesting that The Second City Saint joining OG Bloodline instead of Seth Rollins will start their feud, Punk might now taunt Rollins, saying that he stepped up when The Visionary didn't.
It remains to be seen if Rollins will be involved in the WarGames bout at Survivor Series, as he isn't advertised for any other match. His bete noire, Bronson Reed, is also part of the battle; The Visionary might have something up his sleeves.
Reed defeated Rollins on last Monday's WWE RAW with the help of The Bloodline. The former World Heavyweight Champion could try to get his revenge at the premium live event.
