Triple H is arguably one of the most accomplished people in the pro wrestling business. Fourteen world title reigns, two Royal Rumble victories, and a King of the Ring Crown are among the many notable accolades Hunter "The Game" has earned on his illustrious resume. He's also the visionary force behind WWE under the current TKO leadership
Triple H has had his share of controversial moments as well. He previously admitted to playing a role in the Montreal Sc***job, one of pro wrestling's most infamous moments that saw Bret Hart lose the WWE Championship to Shawn Michaels in controversial fashion.
Hunter's revelation on the Netflix docuseries may have drawn the ire of fans online, but WWE's Chief Content Officer is getting all the praise from Gerald Brisco. Speaking on a recent edition of What Were They Thinking? on Backstage Pass, the WWE Hall of Famer praised the real-life Paul Levesque for protecting him backstage in the aftermath of the sc***job.
"I gotta give Hunter and those guys credit. Hunter came to me and said, 'Brisco if anybody gives you c*ap or anything... I'll be watching your back all day. So everywhere I went... I can see Hunter kind of really looking after me, which I really appreciate to this day cuz Hunter wasn't known as a tough guy (laughs)." [17:10 onwards]
WWE Hall of Famer JBL also put in his two cents on Triple H's reputation as the proverbial 'tough guy' in the locker room, referencing the widely-touted incident from a WWE overseas tour where Hunter saved "Stone Cold" Steve Austin from a fan attack.
"You know the thing is that when he beat up the fan in Germany, we didn't know if he's a tough guy or not. You said he wasn't known (as a tough guy). We didn't know. He wasn't in that (martial arts) background or boxing or anything. You don't know. You don't know what guys are and what aren't until something happens. Situations, in my opinion, they don't build character; they reveal character," stated JBL.
The fan attack incident took place during WWE's tour of Berlin, Germany, in 1998. The live event saw Austin defeat Hunter via his patented stunner to a huge pop from the crowd. But before Austin could leave the ring, he was ambushed by a fan.
Hunter, who was still in close proximity to Austin, immediately rushed to save his peer, taking down the aggressive fan with a suplex. Mike Chioda, who was with WWE at the time, joined in the action, hitting the fan repeatedly with his boots before removing him from the ring.
Last year, the clip made it to X/Twitter. The post drew a positive response from Austin, who tagged Triple H before sharing his appreciation for saving him from the rabid fan all those years ago.
"Overseas back in the day.. You never want this to happen, but sometimes it does. @TripleH was there in a flash. Appreciate it brother. Good times."
